Job summary

Cove Communities is seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to manage financial operations for a portfolio of properties in Phoenix. The role includes general ledger maintenance, variance analysis support, and budgeting assistance, with travel to properties as needed.

You will collaborate with property GMs and department leaders to ensure accurate reporting and timely closings, leveraging NetSuite/Yardi/MRI and advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of property accounting or real estate accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate financial practices.
  • Proficient in accounting software (NetSuite, Yardi, MRI, QuickBooks).
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Experience with multi-property or multi-entity accounting.
  • Familiarity with real estate investment structures and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain general ledger entries and ensure accurate property-level accounting.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely collection and payment.
  • Assist property general manager with budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Monitor and analyze budget vs. actual results; investigate variances.
  • Prepare and file property-related taxes (real estate & sales tax).
  • Coordinate and support audit for related property (internal and external).
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and adherence to accounting policies.
  • Liaise with department leaders.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Property Accountant to manage the financial operations of a real estate portfolio. This role will be responsible for performing general ledger accounting, providing support for variance analysis, and assisting in budgeting and forecasting. This position will include traveling to the property.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain general ledger entries and ensure accurate property-level accounting
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely collection and payment
  • Assist property general manager with budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Monitor and analyze budget vs. actual results; investigate and explain variances
  • Prepare and file property-related taxes, including real estate taxes and sales tax as applicable
  • Coordinate and support audit for related property (internal and external)
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
  • Liaise with department leaders
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities
