Job summary

Jobot is seeking a Property Accountant in Houston, TX. The role supports monthly and quarterly close, variance analysis, and budgeting for diverse real estate portfolios in a hybrid setup. You’ll collaborate with property managers and leadership to ensure GAAP-compliant reporting and strong financial controls.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of property accounting, advanced Excel, and experience with Yardi, MRI or similar systems. CPA-Track is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, with property accounting preferred.
• Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliations.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial analysis.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with property management software.
• Experience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, Entrata, NetSuite or similar systems.
• Excellent communication skills and cross-team collaboration.
• CPA or CPA-track or other accounting certifications valued.
• Commercial real estate, multifamily, retail, industrial, or mixed-use property experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements and supporting reports
• Managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• Performing operating expense and variance analysis to identify trends and opportunities
• Partnering with Property Managers, Asset Managers, and leadership teams to support business decisions
• Assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
• Maintaining general ledger accuracy through reconciliations and journal entries
• Supporting property acquisitions, dispositions, and portfolio transitions
• Ensuring compliance with GAAP, company policies, and reporting requirements
• Identifying process improvements, cost-saving opportunities, and efficiencies
• Assisting with audits, tax-related reporting, and other special projects

What We're Looking For

Ideal candidates will have:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 3+ years of accounting experience, with property accounting experience strongly preferred
• Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliations
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial analysis
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting and property management software
• Experience with platforms such as Yardi, MRI, RealPage, Entrata, NetSuite, or similar systems
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving abilities
• CPA, CPA-track, or other accounting certifications are highly valued
• Commercial real estate, multifamily, retail, industrial, or mixed-use property experience is a plus
