A. Morton Thomas & Associates, Inc. (AMT) in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Transportation Engineer with at least four years of relevant experience to join our transportation team.

The role covers data collection, existing condition analysis, alignments, and MOT/traffic plans, with a hybrid work arrangement (three days in the office, flexible remote). The ideal candidate will have a BS in Civil Engineering, NC PE licensure preferred, and experience with ORD, Microstation, AutoCAD, and other design

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited institution.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
• North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
• Experience with roadway design concepts and cost estimating.
• Familiarity with ORD, Microstation, AutoCAD, Civil3D and related tools.
• Experience with NCDOT prequalification courses is a plus.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel) and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of transportation projects, including data collection and existing condition assessments.
• Analyze alternatives for engineering reports and develop horizontal/vertical alignments.
• Design cross-sections, superelevation, roadside barriers and ADA curb ramps.
• Model roadways, prepare MOT/traffic related plans, and contribute to bid packages.

Position Summary

A. Morton Thomas & Associates, Inc. (AMT) is an ENR 500 A/E firm. Transportation Engineer with at least 4 years of relevant experience is needed to join the transportation team in our Raleigh, NC office. The role will support a variety of projects involving data collection, existing condition and alternative analysis, development of horizontal and vertical alignments, cross‑section and superelevation design, roadside barrier design, ADA curb ramp design, roadway modeling, and MOT/traffic plans. The position offers a competitive salary and benefits, with hybrid work (3 days in office, flexible remote).

Responsibilities

Support a variety of transportation projects, including:

• Analysis of alternatives for engineering reports
• Development of horizontal and vertical alignments
• Cross‑section and superelevation design
• Roadside barrier and ADA curb ramp design
• Roadway modeling and MOT/traffic related plans

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
• North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred
• Knowledge of civil engineering design concepts
• Experience performing design for roadway transportation projects, including cost estimating, specifications, and highway plans for construction bid packages
• Experience with transportation design standards
• Experience with Microstation and Open Roads Designer (ORD)
• Prior work experience with NCDOT required; experience with municipalities and other state DOTs a plus
• Additional experience (ORD intersection and roadway corridor modeling; AutoCAD and/or Civil3D; GIS such as ArcGIS or Google Earth; SignCAD, AutoTurn) a plus
• Completion of various NCDOT prequalification courses a plus
• Proficiency with MS Office products including Word and Excel
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co‑workers, project managers, supervisors, and other team members
