Qualifications

• Proficiency with Microstation and InRoads; Power Inroads SS4/Connect Edition/Open Roads a plus.
• Experience with DOTs and municipal/localities a plus.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D; GIS tools such as ArcGIS or Google Earth.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel).
• Strong oral and written communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of projects including data collection, existing condition analysis, and roadway design tasks.
• Perform horizontal/vertical alignment design, cross sections, superelevation, and related design work.
• Prepare permit drawings, ROW plans, and traffic-related plans.
• Coordinate with stakeholders and provide design support for erosion control, stormwater, and utility relocation.

A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT) is an ENR 500 A/E firm located in Richmond, VA.

AMT is seeking a Transportation Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience to join our Richmond, VA office. This role will support a variety of projects involving data collection, existing condition and alternative analysis, horizontal and vertical alignment design, cross section and superelevation design, roadside barrier design, ADA curb ramp design, roadway modeling, and design support for erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, right‑of‑way plans, utility relocation plans, permit application drawings, and traffic‑related plans.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of civil engineering design and construction surveying concepts.
• Experience performing design for roadway transportation projects, including cost estimating, specifications, and highway plans for construction bid packages.
• Experience with State and Federal transportation design standards required; Virginia design procedures and standards a plus.
• Experience with Microstation and InRoads required; latest version of Power Inroads SS4, Connect Edition or Open Roads a plus.
• Prior work experience with Municipal and State DOTs preferred; experience with VDOT and/or other Virginia localities a plus.
• Additional experience a plus: advanced intersection and roadway corridor modeling; AutoCAD and/or Civil3D; GIS applications such as ArcGIS or Google Earth; SignCAD, AutoTurn, and/or ASTA project scheduling.
• Experience with MS Office products including Word and Excel.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, project managers, supervisors, and other team members.
