Job summary

First Class Construction, LLC in Columbia, SC is seeking a Project Superintendent to lead daily field operations on commercial construction projects. You will drive safety, schedule, quality, and coordination with the Project Manager from mobilization to closeout.

Requires at least 5 years on commercial sites, ability to manage multiple subs, read drawings, and travel up to 30%. We offer a competitive salary, weekly pay, and a benefits package.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Superintendent or lead field supervisor on commercial builds.
• Ability to manage multiple trade subcontractors on active jobsites.
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe jobsite, enforce safety requirements, and address unsafe conditions.
• Direct daily field operations, oversee trade sequencing, and manage subcontractor manpower, schedule, quality, and cleanup.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager to maintain a three-week look-ahead schedule and identify upcoming needs or delays.
• Complete accurate daily reports with manpower, equipment, progress, weather, and issues, with labeled photos.
• Ensure work uses current drawings and approved submittals before materials are installed.
• Identify field conflicts and resolve via RFI process.
• Inspect workmanship, identify deficiencies, and coordinate timely corrections.
• Document potential scope changes and notify the Project Manager before extra work proceeds.
• Schedule and document required inspections.
• Keep the Project Manager informed of problems, approvals, and schedule risks.

The Opportunity

You will lead daily field operations for commercial construction projects in a supportive, team-oriented environment. We’re looking for a proactive Superintendent who anticipates obstacles, holds subcontractors accountable, and coordinates upcoming work and approvals to keep projects moving. You will take ownership of jobsite safety, scheduling, quality, and communication while working closely with the Project Manager from initial mobilization through closeout.

How You Will Make An Impact

• Maintain a safe jobsite, enforce safety requirements, and immediately address unsafe conditions.
• Direct daily field operations, trade sequencing, and jobsite logistics, holding subcontractors accountable for manpower, schedule, quality, and cleanup.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager to maintain an accurate, current three-week look-ahead schedule, identifying upcoming needs, obstacles, and potential delays.
• Complete accurate daily reports every workday, documenting manpower, equipment, progress, weather, and issues, supported by clear photos labeled with area descriptions.
• Ensure crews work from current approved drawings and specifications, and verify required submittal approvals before materials are installed.
• Identify field conflicts promptly and communicate them to the Project Manager for clarification or resolution through the RFI process.
• Continuously inspect workmanship, identify deficiencies, and coordinate timely corrections.
• Document potential scope changes and notify the Project Manager before unauthorized or extra work proceeds.
• Schedule and document required inspections.
• Keep the Project Manager informed of emerging problems, pending approvals, and schedule risks before they become emergencies.
• Maintain a clean, organized jobsite and enforce housekeeping expectations across all trades.
• Begin closeout planning well before project completion, coordinating punch-list work and supporting required closeout documentation.
• Represent the company professionally in interactions and coordination meetings with owners, designers, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Superintendent or lead field supervisor on commercial builds.
• Proven track record of managing multiple trade subcontractors simultaneously on active jobsites.
• Strong expertise in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and schedules.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel up to 30% of working hours.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and field problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• OSHA 30-Hour Certification and First Aid/CPR Certification.
• Experience with construction management platforms like Procore, Corecon, Bluebeam, or MS Project.
• Demonstrated experience managing projects in active, occupied commercial environments.
