Job summary

Apex Systems is seeking a Project Superintendent based in Charleston, SC to lead water and sewer pipeline construction projects across the Southeast. You will oversee field operations, manage crews and equipment, and ensure safety and quality on each site.

Join a team that values safety, accountability, and professional growth while delivering critical underground utility infrastructure. Travel is required across SC, NC, and GA, with the majority of work in SC.

Responsibilities

• Lead field operations for water and sewer pipeline projects.
• Champion safety and ensure compliance with trenching and shoring requirements.
• Coordinate materials, equipment, and manpower with Project Managers; monitor progress and quality.
• Mentor and train field personnel; promote teamwork and continuous improvement.
• Complete daily crew time reporting and project documentation.

Project Superintendent

Water & Sewer Utility Construction

We are seeking a Project Superintendent based in Charleston, SC to lead water and sewer pipeline construction projects throughout the Southeast. What You'll Do

Lead Field Operations

• Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily construction activities on water and sewer pipeline projects.
• Manage crews, equipment, subcontractors, and work sequencing to maintain production goals.
• Ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.

Champion Safety

• Lead daily safety efforts and promote a strong safety culture.
• Ensure compliance with trenching, excavation, shoring, and utility construction safety requirements.
• Conduct jobsite safety inspections and address potential hazards proactively.

Manage Project Execution

• Coordinate material, equipment, and manpower needs with Project Managers.
• Monitor job progress, productivity, and quality standards.
• Communicate effectively with owners, engineers, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.

Develop and Support Your Team

• Mentor and train field personnel to support their professional development.
• Assist with crew management, performance coaching, and workforce planning.
• Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Complete and submit daily crew time reporting and required project documentation.
• Maintain accurate records related to labor, equipment, and project activities.

What We're Looking For

Required Experience

• 10+ years of experience in the water and sewer construction industry.
• 5+ years of experience as a Foreman or Superintendent leading utility construction crews.
• Proven experience managing pipeline installation projects from field execution through completion.

Technical Knowledge

• Strong understanding of water and sewer utility installation practices.
• Experience operating large excavators in the 80,000-130,000 lb class.
• Knowledge of trenching, excavation, and trench shoring systems.
• Competent Person experience related to excavation and trench safety.
• Basic mechanical knowledge for equipment inspection, troubleshooting, and daily maintenance.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to maintain an active DOT physical.
• Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• OSHA 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon employment; physical card required).

Travel Requirements
