Job summary

State Utility Contractors, Inc. in Monroe, NC is seeking a Project Manager for pipeline construction. The role offers exposure to bidding, preconstruction, and full project delivery within a respected pipeline division supported by experienced mentors.

You will manage estimates, schedules, and coordination with owners, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to drive successful project outcomes. ESOP ownership and growth opportunities accompany competitive compensation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
  • Estimating experience in heavy civil, water/wastewater, or related self-perform construction preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project and Outlook).
  • Strong analytical, plan-reading, and takeoff skills with a passion for learning complex water and wastewater systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop fundamentals for bidding pipeline projects with the estimating team.
  • Develop project strategy, preconstruction planning, and scheduling efforts.
  • Prepare purchase orders and subcontracts after confirming with suppliers/subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with project Superintendent to ensure manpower, equipment, materials and subcontractors are ready to meet schedule.
  • Monitor project cost and track production, providing feedback to management and updating schedules.
  • Lead project meetings with owners and engineers and discuss project specifics.
  • Grow into leading complete projects from preconstruction to project completion.

About the Role

We're seeking a driven Pipeline Project Manager who wants to advance their career, gaining hands‑on experience across all disciplines of pipeline construction and estimating fundamentals. You will join a highly respected pipeline division that boasts 90+ years of collective expertise, working side‑by‑side with our team who will mentor your development.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll be involved in the full project management lifecycle from learning the fundamentals of bidding/pricing work, preconstruction, project construction, and final completion/project turnover to owner.

You will:
  • Work with our estimating team to develop fundamentals for bidding pipeline projects. This will include quantity takeoffs, develop pricing, communicating with subcontractors and suppliers to receive project quotes, and assemble detailed estimates for pipelines and pump stations
  • Develop project strategy, preconstruction planning, and scheduling efforts
  • Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to develop purchase orders and subcontracts for the project
  • Complete all project specific submittal requirements from receipt from suppliers/subcontractors to final owner approval
  • Coordinate and communicate with the project Superintendent to ensure all manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, are ready and available when needed to meet project schedule
  • Continuously monitor project cost (labor, material, subcontracts, equipment) and track production, provide feedback to management team, update schedules
  • Communicate with other team members to remove any obstacles that arise during construction
  • Ability to conduct meetings with owners and engineers and discuss project specifics.
  • Grow into leading complete projects, ultimately taking ownership of full project from preconstruction to project completion
