Job Summary

Project Specialist – NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC)

Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc. (AMA) is seeking a full‑time, on‑site Project Specialist to provide project administration support services, including project schedule creation and maintenance, risk identification and monitoring, data review, reporting, and project coordination for NASA Program/Project Managers. The role requires residing within reasonable commuting distance to AFRC; remote work is not offered.

Salary Range: $72,000 – $82,000

Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident; must communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities
  • Project Planning & Control (PP&C)
    • Coordinate with Project Managers and the Project Support Office to develop schedules, reporting criteria, and records.
    • Create, build, maintain, and revise project schedules for multiple AFRC programs and projects.
    • Facilitate schedule build and revision sessions with Program Leadership, chief engineers, and Project Managers to validate schedule structures.
    • Develop systems for data collection and reporting criteria, compile statistics, and support narrative writing for reports.
    • Monitor timelines, track document submissions, and maintain audit files.
    • Analyze schedule performance, present metrics and analysis to management and project leadership.
    • Support the development and maintenance of planning & control systems and tools aligned with AFRC policies.
    • Advise on different schedule structures and risk mitigation strategies for project managers.
    • Demonstrate ownership in providing scheduling and risk support across multiple projects.
  • Project Risk Assessment
    • Identify, communicate, and resolve programmatic risks and issues to prevent impacts on project success.
    • Facilitate risk reviews and present findings to Program/Project Managers and stakeholders.
    • Evaluate risks relative to Center‑approved missions and objectives, including safety considerations.
    • Provide insights on schedule updates, potential slips, and upcoming risks to PMs and stakeholders.
    • Design and implement procedures to meet project objectives and compliance criteria, prepare memorandums, and resolve issues with agencies.
  • Reviews & Reporting
    • Prepare monthly reports with footnotes and evaluate program performance and efficiency.
    • Brief management on action item status and performance metrics.
    • Assist with technical reports and presentations for periodic project reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, SIR, ORR, TRR, SSWG, PMR, and other required reviews.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Project Management or a related field.
  • Proficiency with project scheduling tools (Microsoft Project or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with NASA project management policies (NPR 7120.5) and tools such as NAMIS or Jira.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess schedule risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience preparing and presenting technical briefings and reports to senior leadership.
  • Experience in a government contracting or aerospace research environment is preferred.
  • Experience in flight research, aeronautics, or aerospace research programs is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing project scheduling and/or risk management support in a government contracting or aerospace research environment.
  • Experience facilitating schedule build sessions and risk reviews with senior program leadership.
  • Experience with NASA systems and tools such as NAMIS, Jira, or similar.
  • Experience preparing and presenting technical briefings, reports, and schedule metrics to management.
