Job summary

Northwest ISD seeks a Project SEARCH Special Education Teacher to coordinate transition planning from secondary education to competitive employment. You will develop the Project SEARCH program, deliver employability skills curriculum, and work with interns’ teams to reach employment goals.

Under the direction of the administrator, you will build meaningful partnerships, supervise internships, and ensure measurable outcomes while aligning with district policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required and valid state teaching certificate with special education certification.
• Knowledge of IDEA and transition planning for students with disabilities.
• Experience with community-based programs, school-to-work programs and agency linkages.
• Understanding of state and federal laws and policies applicable to special education.

Responsibilities

• Recruit appropriate students with disabilities for Project SEARCH program.
• Attend ARD meetings for possible student recruits.
• Connect students to community services such as State Rehabilitation Services or DD agencies.
• Identify internships within host businesses that lead to competitive, integrated employment.
• Ensure internships include measurable skills gains assessed by productivity, quality and safety.
