Qualifications

  • 10+ years of water/wastewater engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • New Jersey PE license required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience with regulatory permitting and funding programs.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit BIM, ArcGIS, and hydraulic software.
  • BCEE certification in Water Supply & Wastewater.
  • Active involvement in professional societies (AWWA, WEF/NJWEA, AEANJ).

FPA’s Water/Wastewater Department provides engineering services that help diverse clients maintain, improve, rehabilitate, and expand their water and wastewater infrastructure. Project Managers lead assignments involving public water and sewer systems, supporting clients from infrastructure evaluation and capital planning through design, permitting, bidding, and construction.

The Project Manager – Water & Wastewater will oversee projects of varying size and complexity while managing technical work, financial performance, schedules, risk, and quality. In this role, you will prepare and oversee technical studies and contract documents, coordinate with regulatory and funding agencies, advise clients on project priorities, and work with FPA’s multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful infrastructure improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Director, Client Account Leaders, and other PMs in engaging with public and/or private clients, developing business, managing staff, and managing and delivering challenging projects on time, within budget, and to the client’s satisfaction.
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct engineering work on projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Correspond with clients on project activities, assist with providing quality client services, and support business development opportunities.
  • Prepare technical design studies and reports and construction contract bid documents related to municipal, utility authority, or private water and sewer systems.
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, and work progress and prepare financial status reports.
  • Mentor entry and mid-level staff and conduct performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, and labor to determine project budgets and feasibility.
  • Analyze data, aerial photography, maps, topographic and geologic survey information, and utility systems, and prepare reports, drawings, and specifications necessary to solicit public bids or private proposals to construct infrastructure improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance and advice to clients regarding evaluation, design, and construction of projects.
  • Help clients develop and prioritize their capital improvement programs.
  • Identify client needs and opportunities to cross-sell FPA’s multidisciplinary services.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in Water and/or Wastewater Engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Must hold a New Jersey PE License.
  • Must possess the verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate and engage with peers and clients, manage project teams, and advance discussions with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing and implementing engineering solutions to assist clients with maintaining, improving or constructing their water and/or wastewater infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with regulations and permitting requirements necessary to progress projects through local, state (NJDEP) and federal (EPA) agencies. For example: NJDEP Water Allocation, Safe Drinking Water, Treatment Works Approvals, Discharge Permits, etc.
  • Familiarity with local, state and federal funding programs for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements, upgrades, rehabilitation or replacement including New Jersey Infrastructure Bank (I-Bank) NJEIT Programs, United States Dept. of Agriculture Rural Development, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in planning, design, and construction-phase engineering services for public water systems and/or wastewater systems.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety, professional ethics, and technical excellence.
  • Ability to make presentations and attend meetings with peers, clients and the public.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate information and develop practical solutions.
  • Familiarity and experience with MS Office 365, computer-aided design tools and software including Autodesk’s AutoCAD and Revit (BIM) and Esri’s ArcGIS. Experience with Bentley’s hydraulics and hydrology software OpenFlows WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS/CAD, and/or revalize’s Pipe-Flo
  • Nationally Board Certified as an Environmental Engineer (BCEE) in the specialty of Water Supply & Wastewater (American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists).
  • Membership and active participation in professional societies and associations in the water and wastewater sector (i.e., AWWA, WEF/NJWEA, AEANJ, etc.).

Compensation

The projected compensation range for this position is $125,000 to $160,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors including experience, education, qualifications, and skill set. FPA recognizes and rewards performance through an annual bonus program.
