About the Role

Our client, a consulting firm specializing in environmental and resource management, is seeking a dedicated Project Manager to lead crucial water resource management projects. This role will involve planning, coordinating, and executing projects focused on water conservation, infrastructure development, and policy implementation, primarily serving the Welkom region and the wider Free State province. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science, engineering, or a related field, combined with proven project management capabilities. This position offers the flexibility of a fully remote work arrangement, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full lifecycle of water resource management projects, from initiation and planning to execution, monitoring, and closure.
• Develop detailed project plans, including scope definition, stakeholder analysis, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
• Coordinate with government agencies, community stakeholders, environmental consultants, and engineering teams to ensure project objectives are met.
• Oversee the implementation of water conservation initiatives, infrastructure upgrades, and sustainability programs.
• Monitor project progress, budget adherence, and resource utilization, providing regular reports to the client and internal management.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and water management policies applicable in the Free State .
• Facilitate project meetings, workshops, and communication channels to maintain alignment among all parties involved.
• Contribute to the development of project proposals and business development efforts in the water sector.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, or a related discipline.
• A Master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, with a focus on water resource management, environmental projects, or infrastructure development.
• Demonstrated experience in managing projects related to water conservation, water infrastructure, or watershed management.
• Solid understanding of water resource planning, environmental impact assessments, and relevant South African legislation.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Asana).
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively in a remote setting.
• Experience working within the Welkom or Free State context is advantageous.
