Job summary

Fehr Graham Engineering & Environmental is seeking a Project Manager to lead wastewater projects at our Schaumburg, IL office. You will guide project teams, ensuring technical guidance, client relationships, and growth with a focus on profitable and timely delivery.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in engineering with 2+ years in project management and is a licensed Professional Engineer, with strong knowledge of wastewater processes and biosolids treatment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar with appropriate experience.
  • 8 years of engineering experience with 2+ years of Project Management experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.

What you’ll do

As a Project Manager, you’ll lead and manage wastewater solutions projects. You’ll also resolve scheduling, staffing and quality issues to deliver results on time and within budget. You’ll also:

  • Design and develop wastewater treatment systems, collection systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Prepare engineering plans, specifications, and technical reports for municipal and industrial wastewater projects.
  • Perform hydraulic modeling, process design, and system optimization.
  • Apply expertise in anaerobic digestion of biosolids, including system design, evaluation, and optimization for treatment efficiency and energy recovery.
  • Support and guide projects involving biosolids management strategies, including anaerobic digestion processes, regulatory compliance, and operational best practices.
  • Business Development with clients in existing and new markets.
  • Build and maintain client relationships.
  • Effectively communicate ideas and technical concepts to co‑workers and with clients on sensitive and complex matters.
  • Lead projects utilizing staff and sub‑consultant resources to successful completion of projects on schedule and on budget.
  • Prepare client contract, statement of qualifications, priced proposals and contracts.
  • Ensure quality control for assigned projects and clients.
  • Work on complex projects.
  • Prepare documents and reports.
  • Perform work that involves non‑conventional planning.
What it takes

Ideally, you’ll have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a similar degree with appropriate experience. You should have 8 years of experience in engineering with 2+ years of Project Management experience. You should be a licensed Professional Engineer.

  • Navigate Illinois Environmental Protection Agency regulations with ease.
  • Have proven client relationship management skills.
  • Be a smart worker and a team player.
  • Be well‑acquainted with wastewater processes, methods, and state and federal requirements, including biosolids treatment and anaerobic digestion systems.
  • Use engineering software.
  • Speak and write well.
  • Have strong analytical and organizational skills.
