Overview

As part of Olympus’ Sustaining Engineering team within the Surgical & Interventional Solutions division, this role is responsible for the planning and execution of a wide range of sustaining engineering initiatives, including complex quality and compliance activities such as CAPAs, remediation of design and development files, and implementation of post‑launch design changes that support product performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance. The role also manages functional and organizational initiatives, reports on progress to ensure alignment with expectations, and proactively triages issues to resolve roadblocks for the project team.

Job Duties

• Define and document clear project objectives, scope, and cross‑functional alignment, negotiating trade‑offs as needed.
• Establish actionable project plans and schedules that reflect priorities, constraints, and required resources.
• Exhibit strong influence, facilitation, and problem‑solving skills.
• Develop strong working knowledge of Olympus systems, processes, and tools to drive efficient execution and effective problem‑solving.
• Monitor project progress, anticipate risks and unknowns, and implement mitigation strategies to minimize delays.
• Guide cross‑functional teams toward aligned objectives and decisions, even in environments with diverse perspectives and competing inputs.
• Approach all engagements with a solutions‑oriented mindset, demonstrating ownership, accountability, and follow‑through.
• Communicate complex technical or project challenges clearly and concisely to teams and leadership.
• Deliver effective presentations and status updates to senior management.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with stakeholders across functions and geographies.
• Identify and champion enhancements to systems, processes, and practices that improve efficiency, effectiveness, and overall project outcomes.
• Partner with Sustaining Operations on financial tracking, Offshore Development Center engagements, and other operational support needs.
• Participate in interviewing members of the sustaining project management team; mentor associates, advise peers, and contribute to a great team culture.

Job Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years cross‑functional experience in product development and/or sustaining engineering.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in project management.
• Excellent organizational and facilitation skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• High degree of personal initiative and drive.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.
• Proven ability to work independently and/or collaboratively within a team environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Ability to support global meetings and discussions (e.g., schedule flexibility to support meetings with teams in Hamburg, Germany and Tokyo, Japan).
• Travel as required (e.g., four times per year).

Preferred

• Advanced degrees preferred.
• Medical device product development experience highly preferred.
