Job Description
The project manager will both oversee direct reports, as well as lead engineering projects. The key responsibilities will include managing project financials, interacting with clients, and guiding the civil/structural direction for the project. Supervising structural-design staff to ensure development of high-quality drawings and calculations. The supervisory aspect includes both overseeing and delegating work to team members including: Interns/Co-ops, Structural Design Engineers, and Project Leads.

The project manager will both oversee direct reports, as well as lead engineering projects. The key responsibilities will include managing project financials, interacting with clients, and guiding the civil/structural direction for the project. Supervising structural-design staff to ensure development of high-quality drawings and calculations. The supervisory aspect includes both overseeing and delegating work to team members including: Interns/Co-ops, Structural Design Engineers, and Project Leads.
Work Location: Mainstay is open to applicants that are remote, in addition to our Hybrid schedule opportunity in Blue Bell, PA or Philadelphia, PA offices.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage project financials including: writing proposals, establishing project budgets, monitoring project budgets, identifying and issuing scope adjustments, and invoicing
- Engage in proactive client or external partner interaction including: main point of contact for their projects, determining client expectations for scope and deliverables, ensuring that the scope promised is properly conveyed in the documentation, and ensuring that our documentation is properly coordinated with other disciplines
- The technical engineering aspect includes: developing structural construction documents, setting goals for direct reports, assessing and developing engineering talent, aiding in prioritizing projects, developing and maintaining key business relationships, developing proposals for new projects, and maintaining project budgets.[JM1]
- Proactively guide the civil/structural direction for the project (if there are multiple options being explored, they will guide the team and the end client to determine the best of those options).
- Manage/Supervise assigned staff, providing engineering project feedback as well as career development support.
- Positively Engage and Support team members as a member of the management team
- Lead structural design projects by ensuring best practice, enforcing requirements, goals and timelines in accord with Structural department work load
- Participate in the interviewing, hiring and development of structural engineers
- Coordinate with relevant external stakeholders for solutions and opportunities, including clients and associated partner firms
- Responsible for or assisting with delivering project objectives for assigned projects including scope, schedule, and budget
- Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
- Conduct site investigations, inspections, and/or observations
- Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools
- Develop cost estimates, and write proposals for potential work
- Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
- Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
- Develop and coordinate project scope
- Establish project pricing and budgets
- Manage project schedules
- Develop and maintain project specific quality plans
- Monitors schedules, budgets, accounts receivable and manpower requirements and prepares invoices
- Manage project sub-consultants and in-house support disciplines
- Participate in client meetings and presentations, professionally reflecting the firm and department
DECISION MAKING AND INFLUENCE
- Manage project budgets, allocating appropriate resource
- Participate in weekly bi weekly manpower meetings
- Input/Create colleague annual reviews and performance development plans based on observations on performance indicators
Essential
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
- Degree in civil or structural engineering (essential).
- 8-10 years (min) of work experience as a structural engineer (essential).
- Professionally registered with the Institute of structural engineers.
- Expert experience in project management.
- Advanced knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
- Ability to liaise with professionals from other disciplines and the construction team.
- Timely and professional response to internal communications
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge and/or proficiency in Revit and structural analysis software.
