The City of Wilmington is looking for a motivated and experienced professional to join our Design and Construction Department's Project Management Division as a Project Manager - Stormwater. This is an opportunity to lead meaningful projects that directly impact the safety, sustainability, resilience, and quality of life of our community.
In this role, you’ll be at the center of some of Wilmington’s most important infrastructure investments. Working closely with a diverse team of professionals, you’ll guide stormwater capital improvement projects from planning and technical analysis through design, permitting, construction, and completion.
Projects may include drainage i improvements, open and closed drainage systems, green infrastructure, water quality improvements, easement acquisition, utility relocation, and street improvements. You’ll also manage consulting engineering and surveying contracts, support public outreach, conduct permit and design reviews, and provide construction administration and management.
Stormwater infrastructure is essential to a safe, resilient, and livable city. Every drainage project is an opportunity to reduce flooding, protect public infrastructure and property, improve water quality, and strengthen Wilmington’s ability to respond to future growth and changing environmental conditions.
As a Project Manager, your work won’t stay on a drawing or in a project file—it will become visible, lasting improvements in neighborhoods throughout Wilmington. You’ll help solve complex infrastructure challenges, coordinate competing priorities, engage with the community, and turn public investments into projects that make a tangible difference in people’s daily lives.
This position also plays a critical role in bringing the City’s departments, consultants, contractors, and community partners together around a shared goal: creating a safer, more sustainable Wilmington for everyone.
Experience with stormwater management engineering is preferred.

Health Benefits are offered to employees working at least 30 hours per week.
Health Insurance The City offers two options for health coverage: a standard PPO plan and a High Deductible Health Plan with an associated Health Savings Account. Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following hire for employees and their eligible dependents. Both you and the City contribute to the overall cost of coverage.
Dental Insurance Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following hire. Employees, their spouse and dependent children are eligible for coverage.
Life Insurance The city pays to provide coverage valued at one times your annual salary. Supplemental insurance is available for employees to purchase. Optional coverage for dependents is also available for purchase.
Note: The City of Wilmington is on a bi-weekly pay cycle. New employees should expect to receive their first paycheck approximately 4 weeks after their start date.
