General Summary

This position is with J&J’s Engineering Solutions (“ENGS”), a Strategic Business Unit (“SBU”). ENGS’s core business is working for the Department of Defense (“DoD”) and Defense Health Agency (“DHA”) to perform renovation of existing facilities while they remain occupied and functional, especially in the healthcare industry. Most of this work is performed as a prime contractor, in the eastern region of the United States.

The Project Manager (“PM”) position is a first-level management role. The PM typically oversees site supervisory staff and manages various contracts and locations, focusing on relationships, schedule, and budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the budget for assigned projects.
  • Develop scope of work for subcontracts, negotiate buyouts, and manage subcontractors.
  • Oversee entire project lifecycle from solicitation to closeout and final payment.
  • Ensure site staff have the authority and resources needed.
  • Train, manage, and evaluate site staff.
  • Perform performance evaluations under the guidance of the Director of Operations.
  • Lead and coordinate all design efforts to ensure milestone compliance.
  • Manage repair/renewal efforts for safe, quality, on-time project delivery.
  • Create and maintain project schedules in relevant software (Microsoft Project or Oracle Primavera P6), as well as in Procore and RMS.
  • Manage project-specific submittal registers and plans.
  • Fill in for site supervisory roles when necessary to maintain schedules.
  • Provide guidance and priorities to site staff.
  • Perform audits and identify trends, creating action plans for improvement.
  • Develop and revise processes to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Promote professional development within the team.
  • Develop a succession plan for team members.
  • Support Business Development efforts for strategic growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience and Skills
  • Graduates of accredited programs in Engineering or Architecture; licensed Engineer or Architect preferred.
  • 15 years managing similar construction projects; at least 5 years managing projects of $1M+.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and schedules, lead proposal development, and negotiate with subcontractors.
Software Proficiency

Candidates should be proficient in:

  • Procore
  • RMS
  • Microsoft Office suite

Within 3 months of employment, proficiency in these is expected.

Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Work involves office and construction site environments.
  • Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Exposure to elements typical of construction sites.
