Job summary

Thomas & Hutton is seeking a Project Manager/Project Engineer in water resources to lead key projects across the Southeast. You’ll own complex assignments, mentor a growing team, and collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to deliver sustainable stormwater solutions.

A Civil Engineering degree, a PE license (Georgia preferred), and 10+ years in water resources are required. Proficiency in hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, stormwater design, and contract document preparation will help grow

  • 10+ years of experience in water resources engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage water resources projects including stormwater master planning and modeling.
  • Oversee development of watershed studies, capital projects, and stormwater management solutions.
  • Perform 1D/2D hydrologic/hydraulic analyses and drainage design.
  • Design and supervise stormwater systems and erosion control plans; assist permitting.
  • Develop contract documents with plans, specs, and cost estimates; manage scope & budget.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor staff and provide technical guidance; monitor progress against scope and schedule.
  • Lead FEMA LOMC studies and related analyses.

Project Manager/Project Engineer - Water Resources

Lead impactful water resources projects where your work supports resilient infrastructure and sustainable stormwater solutions across the Southeast. At Thomas & Hutton, you'll take ownership of complex projects, guide a growing team, and collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to deliver high-quality solutions for public and private sector clients. If you're an experienced engineer ready to lead, mentor, and expand a water resources practice, this role is for you.


What you'll do


  • Lead and manage water resources projects including stormwater master planning, drainage design, and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling

  • Oversee the development of watershed studies, capital improvement projects, and stormwater management solutions

  • Perform and manage hydrologic and hydraulic analyses (1D/2D modeling) and drainage design

  • Design and oversee stormwater management systems, erosion and sediment control plans, and NPDES permitting efforts

  • Develop and review contract documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates

  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Manage project scope, schedules, and budgets, including proposal development and fee negotiations

  • Perform and oversee FEMA Letter of Map Changes and related studies

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to team members

  • Monitor project progress to ensure alignment with scope, schedule, and budget goals


What you bring


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (Georgia preferred)

  • 10+ years of experience in water resources engineering

  • Strong experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and stormwater management design

  • Experience with green infrastructure and low impact development practices

  • Experience with erosion and sediment control design and permitting

  • Proficiency in preparing construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcMap, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead client interactions

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and appropriately prioritize workflow

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to mentor staff and lead a high-performing team

  • Ability to perform field work including lifting up to 25 pounds
