Job summary

Thomas & Hutton in Nashville, TN is seeking a water resources engineer to design stormwater infrastructure, perform hydrologic/hydraulic analyses, and collaborate with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams on meaningful projects.

You will qualify as EIT/PE path preferred, 3–5 years of water resources experience, and proficiency with Civil 3D and hydrologic models. On-site role with competitive benefits and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering.
  • EIT certification or ability to obtain (PE path strongly preferred).
  • 3–5 years of water resources engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic principles and stormwater design.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D and hydrologic modeling tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design construction plans, documents, quantities, and cost opinions for stormwater projects.
  • Perform hydrologic, hydraulic, and water-quality analyses for stormwater systems.
  • Design site-specific Best Management Practices and volume-control solutions.
  • Prepare permit applications and supporting documentation.
  • Develop 1D/2D hydraulic models and FEMA CLOMR/LOMR exhibits.
  • Apply Civil 3D and water-resources software to refine designs.
  • Coordinate with clients, PMs, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage project tasks to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality.

What you’ll do:
  • Design construction plans, contract documents, quantity takeoffs, and opinions of probable construction cost for stormwater capital-improvement projects
  • Perform hydrologic, hydraulic, and water-quality analyses for open-channel and closed-conduit stormwater systems
  • Design site-specific best management practices, including conventional, low-impact-development, and stormwater volume-control solutions
  • Prepare permit applications and supporting documentation for regulatory approval
  • Develop one- and two-dimensional hydrologic and hydraulic models, FEMA CLOMR/LOMR applications, technical exhibits, and drainage reports
  • Apply Autodesk Civil 3D and water-resources modeling software to prepare and refine designs
  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary teams throughout project delivery
  • Manage project tasks to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations
What you bring:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain (PE path strongly preferred)
  • 3–5 years of experience in water resources engineering, including hydrologic and hydraulic design and analysis
  • Strong understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic principles, stormwater design, and water-quality analysis
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D
  • Experience with HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, ICPR, XPSWMM, and ArcGIS preferred
  • Experience with two-dimensional hydraulic modeling is a plus
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines
  • Client‑service mindset and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment

Schedule:

On‑site: Monday–Thursday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.; Friday 7:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.
