Job description

Hydrogen Group is recruiting an experienced Project Manager - Pipeline & Facilities for a 6-12 month contract opportunity in Colorado.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of capital projects across midstream pipeline and facility infrastructure, managing delivery from initial engineering and design through procurement, construction, commissioning and close-out.

Projects vary in scale and complexity, and we're interested in Project Managers who can demonstrate genuine ownership of project scope, budget and schedule.

Candidates can come from natural gas, crude oil or NGL infrastructure - experience across all three is not required.

What you'll be doing

As a Project Manager - Pipeline & Facilities, you'll lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate engineering, contractors, vendors and operational stakeholders to successfully deliver capital projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage pipeline and facilities capital projects from development through execution and close-out
  • Take ownership of project scope, budget, schedule and overall delivery
  • Lead engineering, design, procurement and construction activities
  • Coordinate pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up where required
  • Develop project execution strategies, schedules and cost plans
  • Manage multidisciplinary engineering and project teams
  • Support projects involving compressor stations, pump stations, terminals, process plants and associated pipeline infrastructure
  • Monitor project costs, forecasts and overall financial performance
  • Track schedules and identify potential delays, adverse trends and required recovery actions
  • Develop and maintain project execution plans and reporting
  • Prepare scopes of work and bid packages for contractors and vendors
  • Participate in contractor and supplier evaluation and selection
  • Manage contractors and vendors throughout project execution
  • Administer and manage project contracts, including changes to scope
  • Review project controls information and implement corrective action where necessary
  • Manage project risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Coordinate construction activities and provide project leadership during execution
  • Ensure project requirements relating to safety, quality and regulatory compliance are achieved
  • Communicate project status, risks and decisions clearly to stakeholders
  • Build effective working relationships across engineering, operations, construction and commercial teams
  • Provide leadership and accountability across internal and external project resources

What we're looking for

  • Strong project management experience within pipeline, midstream, energy or similar industrial infrastructure
  • Proven experience delivering capital projects through engineering, procurement and construction
  • Experience within at least one of the following: natural gas, crude oil or NGL
  • Demonstrated responsibility for project budgets and schedules
  • Experience managing contractors, vendors and external engineering providers
  • Strong contract management capabilities
  • Experience with pipeline and facility infrastructure
  • Exposure to compressor stations, pump stations, terminals, process plants or comparable facilities
  • Strong understanding of engineering, procurement and construction project delivery
  • Knowledge of project controls, cost forecasting and scheduling
  • Experience managing project scope changes and associated commercial impacts
  • Ability to identify project risks and implement appropriate mitigation or recovery plans
  • Strong stakeholder and customer-facing communication skills
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate competing priorities
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of capital project economics

Your project track record

The scale of projects you've personally delivered is important. Candidates should be prepared to discuss examples covering:

  • Total Installed Cost (TIC)
  • Your personal level of project ownership
  • Project size and technical complexity
  • Engineering and design responsibilities
  • Procurement and contracting strategy
  • Budget and schedule accountability
  • Construction involvement
  • Commissioning and start-up
  • Challenges encountered and how they were resolved

Experience successfully delivering major capital projects will be particularly valuable.

  • Natural gas transmission infrastructure
  • Crude oil or NGL pipeline projects

  • DOT/PHMSA requirements

The opportunity

Contract: 6-12 months, with potential for longer-term or permanent opportunities

Pay rate: $55-$85 per hour, depending on experience

Travel: Typically 5-10%, with increased travel possible during major project phases

This opportunity is well suited to a Project Manager who wants end-to-end responsibility for technically complex capital projects and enjoys working closely with engineering, construction and operational teams.
