MDC Executive Search has partnered with a well-established multifamily real estate company to hire a Project Manager in California. This role will lead ground-up multifamily projects from preconstruction through closeout, with a split schedule between the Newport Beach corporate office (three days) and an Inland Empire jobsite (two days).

Responsibilities include developing schedules and budgets, supervising subcontractors, coordinating with design professionals, and ensuring safety and quality

Our client is a well-established multifamily real estate company with a portfolio of over 2,200 apartment units and additional developments actively in the pipeline. The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead ground-up multifamily construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. You'll split your time between the company's Newport Beach corporate office (three days per week) and an active Inland Empire jobsite (two days per week), giving you both the strategic visibility of leadership and the hands-on ownership of the field.

What You'll Do

• Manage ground-up multifamily construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
• Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and construction plans
• Supervise subcontractors and project staff
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, inspectors, vendors, and internal leadership
• Review drawings, specifications, contracts, submittals, RFIs, and change orders
• Conduct regular site visits and monitor construction progress, quality, and safety
• Identify project risks, delays, and cost concerns, and develop practical solutions
• Lead project meetings and provide clear updates to ownership and senior management
• Review subcontractor bids, scopes of work, invoices, and payment applications
• Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting
• Ensure projects meet company standards, contractual requirements, and applicable building codes
• Support project turnover, punch-list completion, and closeout

What You Bring

• At least four years of multifamily construction project management experience
• Strong ground-up multifamily construction background required
• Experience managing market-rate multifamily projects; affordable housing experience is a plus but not required
• Demonstrated ability to supervise subcontractors and project staff
• Strong knowledge of construction scheduling, budgeting, contracts, and documentation
• Proficiency with Bluebeam, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Office
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Valid driver's license and willingness to work between the Orange County corporate office and the Inland Empire jobsite as described above
• Down-to-earth, approachable, accountable, and solutions-focused
• Calm under pressure, collaborative, and comfortable working independently with real ownership
• $120,000–$150,000 base salary, commensurate with experience
