Job summary

Archdiocese of Detroit's Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan seeks a full-time Program Manager to lead missionary formation and outreach rooted in our mission. You will work with the Center for the Works of Mercy to develop a 1–2 year formation curriculum, supervise missionaries, and coordinate service when serving individuals facing poverty and homelessness.

This role requires a bachelor’s degree, nonprofit management experience, and strong leadership, communication, and donor relations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in theology, ministry, social work, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in ministry leadership, missionary formation, nonprofit program management, or a related field.
  • Experience serving individuals and families experiencing poverty, homelessness, or other vulnerabilities.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to mentor and accompany young adults in a faith-based environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects effectively.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with donors, parish partners, community stakeholders, and prospective supporters to advance program sustainability and growth.
  • Understanding of Catholic teaching and commitment to the mission and values of Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Successful completion of all required employment screenings.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing who supports and faithfully represents the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Completion of the Archdiocese of Detroit Protecting God's Children and Vulnerable Adults training prior to employment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for local travel to outreach sites, parishes, and community locations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director in the development of a 1-2-year missionary formation curriculum.
  • Assist in recruitment, selection, onboarding, supervision, and support of missionaries.
  • Coordinate missionary schedules, community life activities, and formation experiences.
  • Facilitate formation sessions, retreats, and small-group experiences.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with missionaries.
  • Foster accountability, intentional community, and servant leadership.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts serving individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness.
  • Train and mentor missionaries in outreach practices rooted in dignity, encounter, and accompaniment.
  • Organize supplies, resources, and donations necessary for outreach activities.
  • Accompany missionaries during outreach and service opportunities.
  • Support the integration of direct service experiences into the formation process.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of program policies, procedures, handbooks, and SOPs.
  • Maintain program schedules, records, and operational guidelines.
  • Track and report program outcomes and impact metrics.
  • Participate in organizational meetings and professional development.
  • Collaborate with administrative and finance staff regarding program needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Program Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing a missionary formation and outreach program rooted in the mission of Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan. Working collaboratively with the Director of the Center for the Works of Mercy, this position helps develop and lead a structured formation program focused on spiritual, human, pastoral, and intellectual development while coordinating direct service initiatives that accompany individuals experiencing poverty and homelessness.
The Program Manager provides day-to-day leadership for missionaries through formation, mentorship, and service opportunities inspired by Matthew 25 and grounded in the principles of encounter, humility, and presence. The position also supports the development of a sustainable formation model, cultivates strategic community and parish partnerships, assists with fundraising and donor engagement efforts, and strengthens outreach initiatives that advance the mission of the Center for the Works of Mercy.

Position Classification, Type & Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time, 40 hours per week salaried exempt position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Evening and/or weekend hours may be required. Some travel may be required for recruiting and formation experiences. The salary range for this position is 40,000 - 50,000 plus benefits.
