Job summary

NV5 is seeking a Project Manager II to lead the design and construction of Power Delivery projects in California. You will oversee scope, schedule, and budget, coordinate with matrixed teams, and act as the primary contact for internal and client work teams.

Candidates should have leadership experience, a relevant engineering/business degree, at least 6 years of project management, and PMP certification for distribution or transmission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 6 years of work managing complex technical or civil projects.
  • PMP Certification for Distribution or Transmission specialists.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Experience with scheduling software (MS Project and Primavera P6).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget of projects.
  • Coordinate matrixed teams to deliver tasks on time.
  • Provide direction to design team and monitor KPIs and issues.
  • Primary point of contact for internal peers and client teams.
  • Oversee construction, procurement, invoicing, and project documentation.
  • Build and maintain a network of third-party consultants and vendors.
  • Lead project acquisition efforts with Marketing for bids/interviews.

Job description

The Project Manager II provides leadership for and oversight of the design and construction of Power Delivery projects. Works with the team to secure, manage, and deliver projects from new and existing clients. Candidates have a level of leadership experience in the field or a relevant specialty, demonstrate an ability to understand engineering concepts applicable to the job area, and be interested in continuous learning. Candidates with experience in public utility design and construction and business management are preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Manages scope, schedule, and budget of individual projects
    • Works with matrixed team to provide tasks and deliverables on time
    • Provides clear direction of next steps when needed to design team
    • Monitors KPIs, critical path, issues management
  • Provides project analysis and metrics for individual projects
  • Primary point of contact for internal peers
  • Primary point of contact for client’s internal work teams
  • Manages construction, procurement, invoice preparation, and project documentation
  • Continuously build and maintain a network of third-party consultants and vendors
  • Lead project acquisition efforts, including identifying opportunities and working collaboratively with the Marketing team in preparing bids and interviews for jobs
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of client and industry standards related to design and construction
  • Create appropriate documentation for change orders
  • Demonstrate abilities to negotiate solutions to client concerns or project overages
Qualifications
  • Valid CA driver’s license
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management, or a relevant field, or equivalent training and experience
  • At least 6 years of work in a relevant field and position, managing complex technical and/or civil projects
  • PMP Certification for Distribution or Transmission specialists
  • Strong skills in MS Office
  • Positive attitude, ability to work collaboratively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with scheduling software such as Microsoft Project and Primavera P6
  • Understanding of financial performance and earned value metrics for a project
Desired Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of client and industry design and construction standards
  • Experience in public utility design and construction, natural gas pipelines, water/sewer infrastructure, or electric distribution overhead and underground infrastructure
Metrics
  • Evaluation is based, in part, on the timely, accurate completion of work

The pay range for this California position is $145,000–$150,000 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162.
