Job summary

MPI is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee multiple education-focused construction projects from preconstruction through closeout in California. The role offers growth into a leadership position at a top firm with a strong pipeline for the coming years.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Architecture and 5+ years of PM experience, including LAUSD/DSA exposure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or equivalent.
  • 5+ years project management experience.
  • Experience with LAUSD/DSA projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitor and maintain project schedules using lean principles.
  • Lead on-boarding and contract negotiations with trade partners and vendors.
  • Coordinate BIM with pre-construction team, architects and engineers; resolve conflicts.
  • Communicate project status to client and leadership with detailed reporting.
  • Conduct weekly OAC meetings and maintain required documentation.
  • Coordinate weekly meetings with trades, vendors and personnel.
  • Provide monthly invoices and ensure timely funding and payments.
  • Manage scope changes and document impacts for timely Owner decisions.
  • Oversee inspections and close-out through punch-list protocols.

Description

Our Project Manager will be resonsible for:

  • Develop, monitor and maintain a project schedule in a collaborative manner by gathering input from the project team during both Pre-construction and construction using lean principles as appropriate.
  • Lead the effort in the on-boarding and contract negotiations with trade partners and 3rd party vendors and ensure that the buyout is in alignment with the project budget.
  • Work with the Pre-construction team, architects, engineers and trade partners to coordinate the BIM and oversee any conflict resolution.
  • Effectively communicate the project status to client and to company leadership using detailed project reporting related to budget, schedule, quality, safety and changes on the project.
  • Conduct weekly OAC meetings and provide all required reports and documentation to ensure all stakeholders are informed of project status and potential issues.
  • Conduct coordination meetings with all trades, vendors and key personnel on a weekly basis.
  • Provide monthly invoices and oversee all documentation and approvals needed to ensure timely funding for the project and subsequent payment to trade partners and vendors.
  • Work closely with the client, architect and engineers to control and manage any change in scope and provide all impacts and documentation of such to allow for a timely decision to be made, such as cost, schedule and quality implications and obtain the Owner's approval.
  • Oversee the performance and quality of inspections throughout the project to eliminate the need for re-work and lead the effort to close out the project through proper punch list protocols.
Profile
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, and Architecture or equivalent
  • 5+ years project management experience
  • Previous LAUSD/DSA projects required
  • True leadership experience managing teams, client management, goal setting and achieving.
  • Someone who is internally motivated to grow a company and lead.
  • Estimating experience is a plus
  • Having experience with Cost +, negotiated work, MS Project, and Pro-core.
  • CPM scheduling and planning.
  • Has ability to estimate change orders, pay apps, etc
Job Offer
  • A competitive base salary between $175,000-$210,000 (Depending on Experience)

Desired Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of project management experience with a General Contractor.
  • Direct experience delivering DSA and/or LAUSD projects required.
  • Direct experience delivering DSA and/or LAUSD projects required.
  • Strong understanding of public works construction and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, and Microsoft Office.
