The Weitz Company in Des Moines, IA seeks a Project Manager II to lead medium to large construction projects with minimal oversight. You’ll coordinate with the Project Superintendent and handle administration, scheduling, and field activities to ensure profitable outcomes.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of commercial construction PM experience, strong leadership and mentoring skills, and proficiency with scheduling software such as Procore, Bluebeam, and MS Office.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial construction project management experience.
• Experience leading, mentoring, and supervising teams.
• Proficiency with project management software and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and manage project schedules; address long lead items and update plans.
• Negotiate and execute changes, subcontracts and purchase orders.
• Complete monthly status reports, owner billings and financial risk assessments.
• Identify value engineering and scope reduction opportunities.
• Ensure safety plan is communicated to the project team and subs.
• Assist with preconstruction efforts; manage buy-out processes.
• Detect constructability issues and ensure work progress stays within contract scope.
• Understand contract terms, budgets, insurances, bonds and change orders.
• Recommend staff development needs, disciplinary actions, job assignments and promotions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description:

The Weitz Company's Iowa Team is looking for our next great Project Manager II to continue building on our 170 year + legacy in Des Moines, IA.

The Project Manager II is responsible for profitably managing multiple medium sized projects or a single large sized project, with minimal oversight. This role will collaborate closely with the Project Superintendent and manage all administrative and field construction activities related to the assigned project(s). The Project Manager typically reports to the Senior Project Manager or Project Executive.

What You’ll Do Every Day:

• Prepare and manage project schedule; identify and address long lead items; update project plan as required; initiate changes to ensure adherence
• Negotiate and execute change orders, subcontracts and purchase orders
• Complete monthly project status reports, owner billings and financial risk assessments

What We’re Looking For:

• Desired Experience:
  • (5+) years of commercial construction experience, including project management experience.
  • Experience managing others with a proven history of leading, teaching, developing and mentoring successfully.
  • Experience in a fast-paced business environment is helpful.
• Skills:
  • Business acumen, judgment, communication, solid leadership, client relations, negotiation, project management, solid construction knowledge, decision-making, conflict resolution, tact, adaptable and analytical abilities are all necessary skills for a Project Manager.
• Education:
  • Industry-related college degree is required; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Technology:
  • Candidate should have experience with or be able to learn specific project management and scheduling software (ex: JDE, Procore, Bluebeam, Asta).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Training will be provided on company standards.
