Job summary

The Weitz Company is seeking an experienced Senior Project Superintendent to lead Data Center Projects in the Des Moines, IA area within the Iowa Business Unit. This role focuses on profitable field operations, safety culture, and strong client and subcontractor relationships.

You will manage schedules, budgets, and staff, reporting to the senior Project Manager. The Weitz Company has a long history and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of project superintendent experience in commercial construction.
• Experience leading and mentoring a team.
• Data center construction experience strongly preferred.
• Ability to read/interpret construction documents.
• Excellent project organizational and leadership skills.
• Strong communication across levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Act as primary leader of subcontractors and field forces on the site.
• Maintain project safety per Safety Policy.
• Develop and update the project schedule and resource allocation.
• Prepare two-week look-ahead schedules.
• Oversee daily construction activities to meet quality, schedule, and budget.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and ensure adherence to contract requirements and safety protocols.
• Conduct regular site inspections and address quality issues.
• Identify and resolve issues to maintain momentum and schedule.
• Update project schedules using scheduling software.
• Assist with buyout and selection of major subcontractors.
• Oversee all aspects of project execution: schedules, budgets, quality control.
• Supervise and coordinate field personnel and subcontractors.
• Implement and enforce strict safety protocols on site.
• Maintain strong communication with PMs, clients, and stakeholders.
• Coordinate work of subcontractors’ field forces.
• Communicate with owners, designers, engineers, and project team.
• Maintain accurate cost reports.
• Ensure paperwork is complete and timely.

The Weitz Company is looking for an experienced Project Superintendent to be located in our Iowa Business Unit leading Data Center Projects in Des Moines, IA.

The Senior Project Superintendent is responsible for the profitable field operations on complex, large projects after demonstrating ability to successfully complete smaller projects. The Senior Project Superintendent is also responsible to establish the safety culture on the jobsite and work closely with the Project Manager to manage schedule, budget, and staff to achieve profitable outcomes. This individual should also create and maintain effective client, vendor, supplier, and subcontractor relationships. This position typically reports to the most senior Project Manager on the job.

What You’ll Do

• Act as the primary leader of subcontractors and field forces on a job site
• Maintain project safety in accordance with the Company’s Safety Policy
• Develop and update the project schedule, resource allocation, and work processes
• Prepare two-week look ahead schedules
• Oversee daily construction activities ensuring work meets quality standards, project timelines, and budgets
• Coordinate with subcontractors, manage their performance, and ensure they adhere to contract requirements and safety protocols
• Conduct regular site inspections, identify and address quality issues, and ensure work meets project specifications
• Identify and resolve issues promptly and effectively to maintain project momentum and project schedule
• Update project schedules utilizing computerized scheduling software
• Assist with the buyout and selection of major subcontractors
• Oversee all aspects of project execution, including constructions schedules, budgets, and quality control
• Supervise and coordinate all field personnel, subcontractors, and construction activities
• Implement and enforce strict safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment for all employees and subcontractors
• Maintain strong communication with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders
• Coordinate the work of the subcontractors’ field forces
• Communicate effectively both externally with owners, designers, and engineers as well as internally with the project team
• Maintain accurate cost reports
• Ensure all required paperwork is completed, accurate, and timely
• Adhere to all company policies, standards, and procedures
• Provide opportunities to help the team develop, learn, and grow
• Foster positive relationships with both internal and external parties

What We’re Looking For

• Experience:8+ years of Project Superintendent experience requiredCommercial construction experience working for a general contractor (GC) is requiredExperience leading, developing, and mentoring a teamExperience in Data Center Construction is strongly preferred
