Highway Design Project Manager – Norwood, MA

Collins is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Highway Design Project Manager for our Design Group to play a key role on our team in Norwood, MA office. The ideal candidate will have experience in highway design and project management who can bring creative problem‑solving skills balanced with a strong background in highway design. This position requires the ability to manage design contracts with MassDOT, MBTA, RIDOT, or NHDOT, liaise with clients and government agencies, and direct teams. Candidates receive technical guidance for unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval of proposed project plans. They represent the company in communications with clients from the initial effort throughout the entire course of agreement activity, and supervise a few engineers and/or drafters on a project basis. This role can be performed out of any of our Northeast offices (MA, RI, NH).

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares and designs plans for site grading, drainage, paving, utilities, and roadways for public and private sector clients.
  • Ensures documents are in compliance with state and local codes, laws, ordinances, and agency requirements.
  • Prepares site plans and authors due diligence studies; leads efforts in the preparation of engineering reports, plans, and specifications.
  • Makes independent decisions within a general framework.
  • Is active in technical societies.
  • Publishes engineering papers and/or articles.
  • Responsible for projects of varying size and complexity from inception to completion.
  • Works closely with clients.
  • Takes an active role in contract negotiations, project planning, project quality, and project profitability.
  • Oversees project budgets.
  • Responsible for project schedules and timely completion of projects.
  • Plans, conducts, and/or coordinates detailed phases of project work.

  • Ensures accurate client billings and monitors outstanding accounts receivable.
  • Provides leadership in proposal preparation, project scoping, and estimating project costs.
  • Responsible for maintaining meaningful relationships with clients.
  • Represents Collins in project meetings.
  • Is available to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours.
  • Directs and supervises the work of other engineers, drafters, and administrative staff.
  • Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
  • Ensures that staff needing specialized training in health and safety procedures and practices receives such training and that safety is discussed as an important aspect of their work.
  • Relocation is available.
