Job description

Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health is seeking a Project Manager to oversee and manage initiatives relevant to training a diverse scientific workforce to advance health equity research. Activities at present would center on the Global Alliance for Training in Health Equity Research (GATHER), a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded training grant supporting doctoral and postdoctoral scholars for a period of 3 to 12 months. Supporting GATHER requires working independently to plan events, supporting trainees in navigating university systems related to employment and travel, and compiling information relevant to evaluating trainee satisfaction with program components and the career impact of the program overall. The Project Manager may also be engaged with GATHER co-directors Alex Ezeh and Gina Lovasi on development of a renewal application, and on related educational, research, or practice activities.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the implementation of trainee events and travel.
  • Request and synthesize inputs such as trainee satisfaction with program components and follow-up for program evaluation twice per year.
  • Maintain contact lists and a calendar of communications to meet training grant objectives (including with trainees, mentors, advisory committee members, and Drexel offices).
  • Oversee purchasing and preparation of related documentation (e.g., offer letters, travel justification) so that budgets can be managed in coordination with department administrators.
  • Prepare, proofread, and archive reports and communication to NIH or other funders.
  • Develop and track relevant newsletters, blogs, abstracts, and journal articles.
  • Work on initiatives that emerge relevant to health equity training and research.
  • Manage project documentation such as Institutional Review Board (IRB) review requests.
  • Complete required trainings and procedures related to employment at Drexel University.
  • At least two years’ experience coordinating a training program or research team, with responsibility for proactive planning and implementation.
  • A completed master’s degree relevant to education, public health, or other areas of health or social sciences with an emphasis relevant to health equity.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong writing, speaking, and organization skills.
  • Proficiency using computer software programs including Windows Operating System, MS Office, Adobe, and project management and data analyses software.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree relevant to education, public health, or other areas of health or social sciences with an emphasis relevant to health equity.
  • Experience with research capacity strengthening programs.
  • Experience living and working overseas for 2+ years.
  • Openness to travel overseas as needed (up to 10%).
