Job summary

Air Liquide Global E&C Solutions US Inc. in Houston seeks a Project Manager- EPC (ASU) to lead engineering activities and manage capital projects up to $200 million. You will direct a team of project engineers and coordinate with other departments and external partners to meet design, budget, and schedule goals.

The ideal candidate holds a B.S. in Science or Engineering, has at least 15 years in engineering/EPC/project management, and can travel up to 60% internationally.

  • B.S. in Science or Engineering from an accredited college.
  • Candidate must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the business unit interests in the development and the execution of capital investments up to $200 million
  • Assist project and business development teams to identify, budget, and plan project solutions
  • Plan project execution according to PMI practices and Air Liquide procedures
  • Lead a multi-national project execution team with representatives from multiple business entities
  • Participate in required engineering review meetings at foreign company locations
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project risk register and manage identified risks
  • Negotiate and execute engineering, procurement, and construction contracts
  • Implement tracking and progress reporting using metrics and dashboards
  • Prepare baseline project schedule and monitor progress
  • Work with regulatory bodies to obtain permits and licenses
  • Lead the project team in creation of discipline subcontract packages and contractor selection
  • Negotiate construction contracts with subcontracting department and Air Liquide legal team
  • Oversee onsite construction activities and monitor contract compliance
  • Analyze, manage and mitigate risks
  • Drive teamwork between operations, engineering, construction, and project delivery
  • Ensure proper construction techniques and quality standards
  • Prepare internal and external monthly project reports
  • Monitor and champion safety on site

Within a Center, is responsible for all engineering activities in Project Engineering for specific projects in accordance with contractual requirements (design, budgeted hours, schedule etc.) by leading a team of Project Engineers / Project Engineering Managers and by coordinating with other departments and - if needed - external partners / subcontractors.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Represent the business unit interests in the development and the execution of capital investments up to $200 million
  • Assist project and business development teams to identify, budget, and plan project solutions that maximizes the competitiveness of Air Liquide's commercial offer to the end customer
  • Plan project execution according to Project Management Institute practices and to Air Liquide's procedures
  • Lead a multi-national project execution team with representatives from multiple business entities
  • Participate in required engineering review meetings at foreign company locations (China, UAE, Germany, France, India etc.)
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project risk register and will actively manage identified risks and opportunities
  • Participate in negotiation and execution of engineering, procurement, and construction contracts
  • Implement tracking and progress reporting using metrics and dashboards to communicate status of projects to upper management
  • Participate in the setup of a baseline project schedule and monitoring of the progress with respect to this schedule
  • Work with regulatory bodies to obtain required permits and licenses
  • Lead the project team in creation of discipline subcontract packages (piling, civil, mechanical, and E&I), participate in contractor pre-bid and clarification meetings, and take on the leading role in contractor selection
  • Negotiate construction contracts with the help of subcontracting department and Air Liquide legal team
  • Oversee all onsite construction activities and monitor compliance with contract
  • Analyze, manage and mitigate risks
  • Drive a culture of teamwork between operations, engineering, construction, and project delivery teams
  • Ensure use of proper construction techniques and enforce adherence to proper quality standards
  • Prepare internal and external monthly project reports
  • Analyze, negotiate, and execute construction subcontract change orders
  • Monitor and champion safety performance through all aspects of the project but especially at the construction site
Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Science or Engineering from an accredited college or university required
  • Advanced degree is preferred Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship
  • Minimum 15 years of work experience in an engineering discipline, project engineering within an EPC organization, project management, construction, or equivalent, with additional exposure to business development, procurement, and operations
  • Project manager will be competent in conflict resolution and crisis management
  • Previous military experience is a plus
  • Possess ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels of organization both verbally and in writing
  • Be willing to share personal technical knowledge with and foster development of other team members
  • Candidate has to demonstrate ability to plan ahead and understanding of all facets of the construction process
  • Be viewed as an established leader and have the ability to lead individuals without administrative chain of command
  • Have the ability to travel internationally with up to 60% of time spent on the road (local and International) and construction site
  • Fluency in English required as clients located throughout the US and Canada

  • Industrial Gas experience
