Job summary

Air Liquide is seeking a Project Engineer in Houston, TX to support plant project execution. The role collaborates with technical, procurement, quality, and manufacturing teams to define scope, coordinate execution, and manage communication across the project lifecycle.

The engineer will help drive value through design support, cost control, bids, and field activities, while ensuring compliance with safety standards and company procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in engineering required.
  • 3+ years in engineering, design, project management, operations, finance or procurement.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills; able to interact with multiple disciplines.
  • Solution-oriented with strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work with all levels of personnel and manage priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on proposal development, cost sheets, and contract negotiations.
  • Build and organize project scope, communication channels, execution strategy, and team coordination.
  • Coordinate with Technical, Procurement, Quality Control, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Monitor progress to meet Project KPIs and ensure safety standards.
  • Support deployment of company procedures and safety throughout project execution.
  • Share learnings, capitalization, and status reports across teams.
  • Assist field activities during development and construction phases.
  • Work with Project Manager and cross-functional teams across project phases.

We own and operate over 2,000 miles of industrial gas pipelines in the U.S. supplying mainly oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and syngas in large quantities from multiple production sources to major customers in the chemicals, petrochemicals, refining and steel industries. Our pipeline operations and industrial gas production facilities are closely monitored 24/7 within our leading-edge operations control center located in Houston, Texas. Our operations control group monitors over 89,000 data points and assists with product supply and coordination. Join our dynamic team at Air Liquide as a Project Engineer

  • Collaborate on the proposal phase for the development of the technical solution, the establishment of the cost sheet, and the preparation and negotiation of key contracts;
  • Build and foster the project organization: define scope of work, establish channels of communication, craft the execution strategy, and coordinate team efforts;
  • Partner across internal teams: with Technical teams, with Procurement (supporting the procurement plan, including pre-ordering when applicable), with Quality Control, and with Manufacturing;
  • Guide, share progress on (to Projects Execution Group Manager), and achieve the Project Key Indicators;
  • Support the implementation of company procedures and safety standards throughout project execution;
  • Organize and share project learnings, capitalization, and status reports;
  • Support field activities and teams during the development and construction phase;
  • Partner with the Director of Plant Projects on special initiatives, general department support, and cross-functional projects;
  • Assist with the continuous improvement and updates of department resources and documentation;
  • Partner directly with the Project Manager across all project phases, driving key contributions including but not limited to:
    • Basic engineering design support, such as P&ID mark-up coordination
    • Scope change identification and timely submittal of PCN
    • Facilitating value optimization and efficiency improvements to ensure high-value project outcomes
    • Equipment specification and partnering with teams to align technical procedures and methods with project goals
    • Creation and submission of purchase requisitions
    • Facilitating meeting summaries and driving action item resolution
    • Collaborating with Supply Management on vendor selection and technical bid clarification
    • Supporting facility teams in the MOC compilation and submittal process on applicable projects
    • Participating constructively in PHAs
    • Supporting the project manager and RMR with Action Item closure
    • Participating in PSSR and RTOR, while assisting the project manager and Operations Representative with the closure of pre- and post-start-up actions
    • Supporting field activities and site teams during the development and construction phase

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in engineering
  • 3+ years working experience in the related fields of engineering, design, project management, operations, finance or procurement. Excellent communication and coordination skills
  • 4. Solution-oriented, with excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • 5. Ability to interact effectively with other entities / disciplines / departments
  • 6. Strong organizational and people management skills
  • 7. Ability to work with all levels of personnel
  • 8. Ability to perform under stress and time constraints
  • 9. Strong digital skills, including Google Suite tools and MS Products (Excel. Word, MS Project)
  • 10. Comfortable in both Corporate and Field environments
  • 11. Expected travel 25-30% of time
  • 12. Has full range of motion and ability to lift 50 lbs.
