Build trusted relationships. Solve complex challenges. Lead meaningful projects.

As Code Red Consultants continues to grow across the country, we're looking for an experienced Project Manager who enjoys building strong client relationships, solving complex challenges, and leading meaningful projects. This is an opportunity to join a nationally recognized fire protection and life safety consulting firm where your technical expertise will contribute to meaningful projects and be part of a culture that values technical excellence, collaboration, and integrity.

At Code Red, we help architects, developers, owners, institutions, and other project stakeholders navigate complex code compliance and life safety challenges. Our portfolio includes academic, healthcare, residential, science and technology, transportation, commercial, and mixed-use projects across the United States.

Our collaborative, team-based model allows professionals to build deep technical expertise while working alongside some of the industry's most respected fire protection and life safety consultants. We foster a culture built on collaboration, accountability, mentorship, and continuous learning, creating meaningful opportunities for leadership, professional growth, and long‑term career development.

As a Project Manager, you'll serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project teams, leading code consulting projects from planning through delivery. You'll combine technical expertise, project leadership, and relationship management to help clients navigate critical life safety and compliance challenges. While you'll take ownership of project performance and client relationships, you'll do so as part of a collaborative project delivery team. Along the way, you'll support the development of emerging professionals, help shape project outcomes, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of our firm.

The ideal candidate will bring demonstrated experience in code consulting, a proven track record of project and client management, and a passion for developing others. Whether your goal is to deepen your technical expertise, expand your project leadership responsibilities, or help shape the future of our growing firm, you'll find opportunities to make a lasting impact. Learn more about our firm at Code Red Consultants.

This hybrid position may be based in our Boston, New York, Bethesda, MD, or Los Angeles office and requires occasional travel to client and project sites as needed.

What You Will Do:
  • Lead high-profile code consulting projects that help shape safer buildings and communities across the country.
  • Develop trusted relationships with architects, owners, developers, healthcare systems, higher education institutions, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Solve complex code and life safety challenges alongside multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Provide project-based mentoring and support to consultants and emerging project managers.
  • Help shape project outcomes, strength client relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of the firm.

In addition, you will:

  • Lead a portfolio of code consulting projects, including complex, multi‑phase, and multi‑service engagements, with accountability for project performance, client service, schedule, budget, quality, and overall project success.
  • Create, update, and manage project plans, milestones, budgets, forecasts, and project documentation using established project management systems, including Unanet.
  • Coordinate resources and collaborate with project directors, service managers, team leads, and technical staff to support successful project execution.
  • Prepare and review clear, concise, and customized technical deliverables for AHJs, designers, contractors, and owners.
  • Communicate complex code interpretations and alternative compliance strategies both verbally and in writing.
  • Anticipate project and compliance challenges and help clients proactively manage risk throughout design and construction.
  • Review technical deliverables prepared by others to ensure accuracy, quality, efficiency, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Lead project meetings and client communications while proactively monitoring client satisfaction and project performance.
  • Manage project administration activities, including project setup, budgeting, forecasting, invoice review, accounts receivable follow‑up, contract review, and certificate of insurance review.
What You Will Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. A degree in Fire Protection Engineering is preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in code consulting, fire and life safety engineering, and project management.
  • Knowledge of applicable fire and life safety codes, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Proven experience managing projects, budgets, schedules, deliverables, and client relationships. Experience leading complex, multi‑phase, or multi‑service projects is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to prepare and review high‑quality technical deliverables and effectively communicate complex technical concepts to clients, project teams, and AHJs.
  • Working knowledge of project financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, invoice review, and accounts receivable processes.
  • Strong leadership, delegation, mentoring, and team coordination skills.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients, colleagues, AHJs, and project stakeholders.
  • A collaborative, self‑directed approach and a commitment to delivering an exceptional client experience.
  • Ability to travel to client and project sites across the country as business needs require.
