Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret regulations and guidance from applicable manuals and standards, and apply engineering judgement on design decisions.
  • Self-perform and provide technical direction for the preparation of engineering project deliverables, including calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Review work performed by other personnel and ensure that projects adhere to GEC and client Quality Management guidelines.
  • Track and report on the technical, budgetary, and schedule performance of projects. Identify and pursue corrective actions when necessary.
  • Maintain meaningful contact and coordination with clients and project stakeholders to ensure a satisfactory level of service.
  • Support and coordinate with other project disciplines, GEC leadership, and personnel at other firms.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to make decisions based on sound ethics and engineering judgement.
  • Ability to communicate with courtesy and tact.
  • Experience preparing deliverables for Illinois transportation agencies.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Familiarity with Bentley OpenRoads Designer.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office software products.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary education with a focus on math, science, and engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License.
  • Six or more years of experience in civil engineering design.
  • Desire for continued learning and career growth.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience with IDOT and local government projects.
  • Experience in project or task management, including budget and schedule.
