Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related in-field experience, including work directly or as a consultant for IDOT, Illinois Tollway, Chicago DOT, Cook County DOT & Highways, local counties and municipalities, and Federally funded projects.
  • E.I.T. certificate.
  • Strong technical skills with excellent verbal and written communication abilities; ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Experience leading projects, coordinating, and inspecting roadway work in field or design.
  • Illinois Driver's License.
  • Ability to consider multiple perspectives when solving problems and to collaborate with peers to share knowledge.

Overview

GFT is seeking a Highway Engineer / Project Manager to join our Transportation Team in Schaumburg, IL. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Schaumburg, IL office.

GFT's Transportation team offers the opportunity to engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity. Projects include highways and bridges, traffic engineering, resilient and sustainable design, and construction, delivering innovative solutions for modern multimodal roadway systems that ensure safe, efficient, and reliable travel for all.

What you will be challenged to do

This office focuses on roadway, highway, structural, transit, rail, and intermodal design and inspection. The role will primarily act as a Project Manager on Phase I and Phase II projects. It involves embedded work at the Illinois Department of Transportation as a Project Manager, managing 8–15 IDOT projects in the Consultant Services Section in the Bureau of Design at the IDOT District One Office in Schaumburg.

The successful candidate will lead coordination of tasks including working with assigned consultants on roadway plans, specifications, and other tasks such as reviews by other Bureaus of project documents, pavement design, utility, rail, and local agreements with the Project Support Section, special waste and permitting.

The candidate should have a background in preliminary engineering, plan development, or construction engineering with the Illinois Department of Transportation. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. The individual may work with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects and will need to work independently to lead projects within the Bureau of Design and other Bureaus within the Department of Transportation. The candidate will work with engineers and other technicians to complete tasks.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $110,000 – $155,000, depending on experience and geographic location.
