Project Manager – Application Development (Healthcare)

Location: Remote (USA)

Department: Application Delivery / Technology PMO

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of application development projects within a healthcare payer environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project execution, financial management, and stakeholder communication. This role requires hands-on management of software development initiatives, with a focus on meeting defined business objectives, timelines, and budgets.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution

• Manage end-to-end delivery of application development projects from initiation through deployment.
• Create and maintain detailed project plans, including scope, schedule, resource allocation, and budget.
• Drive project deliverables across cross-functional teams including business analysts, developers, testers, and external vendors.
• Monitor and control project execution, ensuring alignment with requirements, timelines, and success criteria.

Scope, Schedule, and Change Management

• Track project milestones and dependencies, proactively identifying issues or delays.
• Manage changes to project scope, timeline, and cost with clear impact assessments and stakeholder approvals.
• Maintain project documentation, action logs, RAID logs (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies), and status reports.
• Track project financials including forecast, actuals, and variance analysis.
• Pull and analyze financial data from reporting tools to ensure accurate burn tracking.
• Highlight financial risks and opportunities to delivery and leadership teams.

Stakeholder Communication

• Prepare and deliver regular status updates to stakeholders and leadership.
• Facilitate meetings, stand-ups, and workshops with project teams and business stakeholders.
• Ensure timely resolution of issues and clear communication of risks, changes, and progress.
• Collaborate with internal and external resource managers to secure needed skills and capacity.
• Coordinate with vendor partners as needed for solution delivery, testing, or integration.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of project management experience, with a focus on application/software development.
• Strong understanding of project management principles (Agile, Waterfall, or Hybrid).
• Experience managing projects in a healthcare payer or other regulated industry.
• Proficient in MS Project, Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, or similar tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and manage competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

• PMP, CSM, or equivalent project management certification.
• Experience in healthcare payer systems such as claims processing, provider networks, or member portals.
• Familiarity with HIPAA, PHI, and healthcare compliance requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, IT, or related field.
