Job summary

Responsible for the successful planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of water and wastewater projects, or assigned packages. The Project Manager is in the driver’s seat, fully accountable for delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. They effectively manage the project team, exercising decision-making authority while being supported by the Project Director or Head of PM for strategic guidance, resource allocation, and oversight.

Job requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in project management within the water/wastewater industry.
  • Proven success in managing small to medium-sized projects, ideally within an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) environment.
  • Experience leading, developing, and mentoring project engineers and team members.

Education

Job responsibilities
Project Planning:
  • Project Planning Ownership: Take ownership of planning small to medium projects, defining scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders. Exercise decision-making authority and strategic oversight while aligning with wider organizational goals.
  • Detailed Project Scheduling: Develop clear, practical project plans, including schedules, resource allocation, and budgets appropriate to project size.
  • Resource Planning & Allocation: Identify and allocate necessary personnel, equipment, and materials to support project execution.
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Conduct straightforward risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions.
  • Budgeting & Cost Estimation: Develop realistic budgets based on project scope and ensure financial targets are met.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing regular updates, addressing concerns, and managing expectations. The Project Manager leads stakeholder communication directly but may be supported or accompanied by the Head of PM or Project Director for high-level discussions, complex negotiations, or strategic stakeholder management.
Project Execution:
  • Project Execution: Lead the day-to-day management of projects, ensuring progress against plans. Proactively identify potential issues and implement corrective actions to stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Financial Monitoring & Control: Monitor project costs closely, working with the Project Controller to ensure budgets are controlled and financial targets are achieved. Track project invoicing and ensure client payment milestones are met.
  • Problem Resolution: Address project issues promptly, collaborating with team members and stakeholders for effective solutions.
  • Performance Review: Regularly evaluate project performance, implementing improvements and keeping stakeholders informed of progress.Contract and change management: Manage contracts and changes orders, and support claims resolution in coordination with legal teams.
  • Ensure compliance with BW Water project governance processes, including monthly project reports, risk analysis, and lessons-learned.
  • Ensure compliance with BW Water’s QMS, culture of safety, sustainability, and inclusion, ensuring that project delivery supports environmental and social responsibility.
Team Leadership:
  • Project Team Leadership: Lead and coordinate small to mid-sized project teams, ensuring clear roles, effective communication, and task completion.
  • Team Development & Coaching: Support team members’ growth through direct coaching, providing guidance, and timely feedback.
  • Resource Management: Manage available resources efficiently, ensuring the right personnel and materials are allocated to meet project goals.
  • Team Motivation & Morale: Foster a positive, engaged team environment by recognizing achievements and encouraging collaborative problem-solving.
  • Team Performance Monitoring & Feedback: Conduct regular performance reviews at the team level, providing constructive feedback to support individual and team growth.
