Job description

Monarch Build is a local commercial general contractor based in Overland Park, Kansas. We build for healthcare, dental, education, financial, corporate, retail, and sports and recreation clients, and we believe great construction starts with great relationships.

About the Role

The "air traffic controller" of the project. You are part strategist, part diplomat and part financial wizard. You bridge the gap between our clients, the design team and the field, keeping projects profitable, on schedule and stress-free for everyone involved. As the single point of contact during construction, you'll own both the project and field management sides of the job. Sometimes that means overseeing several projects at once, and sometimes leading one big one.

Responsibilities
  • Own the numbers. Set up budgets by scope, update cost-to-complete regularly, build projections with your Superintendent, and master change orders, pay applications and retainage.
  • Build the dream team. Write scopes of work, prepare subcontracts, and hire, vet and manage top-tier trade partners to the terms of their contracts.
  • Be the client's hero. Keep owners and architects updated, happy and confident in our work, and lead progress, OAC and pre-installation meetings.
  • Map out the master plan. Build the schedule from the plans and specs, work the critical path, and make sure the two-week look-ahead happens.
  • Protect the project. Spot risks early and plan around them to save margin and hit deadlines.
  • Stick the landing. Start closeout before the job ends and get every closeout document and O&M manual to the owner on time.
  • Grow the next wave. Train and mentor Assistant Project Managers, Project Engineers and Construction Administrators.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering, or an equivalent mix of education, training and experience.
Required Skills
  • A consistent track record of commercial projects you led from start to finish, including managing more than one at a time.
  • Proficiency in Procore, MS Project and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience running progress, OAC and pre-installation meetings.
  • A proactive approach to solving problems, and relationships the field team trusts.
Preferred Skills
  • You lead with humility: you listen, respect your partners and stay open-minded.
  • You think ahead, delegate well and make decisions from the facts.
  • You do what you say you'll do and own the outcome.
Pay range and compensation package
  • Full-time and salaried, based in our Overland Park office with regular time on jobsites across the Kansas City metro.
  • Some travel, occasionally on short notice.
