About the Position
The Project Manager focusing on transportation projects is responsible for delivering Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and local agency public works infrastructure projects. This includes managing all project deliverables produced by the project team, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards, and maintaining client satisfaction, primarily working with MDOT clients. The PM also maintains positive relationships with clients and promotes cross-selling of the firm's services where applicable.
Role and Responsibilities
Project Management (65%)
- Utilize the company’s Project Management system and collaborate with project team members to complete projects. Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Develop and monitor overall project schedules, including quality review timelines.
- Coordinate staffing with the Transportation Team Supervisor.
- Complete the Project Management Plan (PMP) and conduct project kick-off meetings.
- Schedule and conduct interim review and progress meetings.
- Work with the administrative team to prepare Earned Value Reports.
- Update project staffing needs in collaboration with the administrative team.
- Prepare monthly Project Progress Reports.
- Schedule all project quality reviews.
Business Development (30%)
- Leverage existing client relationships and develop new ones. Coordinate efforts with the Government Market Sector Leader.
- Assemble project teams for pursuits, develop professional services proposals, and derive costs for work.
- Prepare contracts and sub-agreements for review, approval, and execution.
Leadership (5%)
- Lead project team meetings.
- Participate in professional organizations to increase firm exposure.
- Engage in training and development activities to stay current with industry trends.
- Provide positive influence and constructive feedback to team members.
Qualifications
- Experience leading design and plan production for conventional design-bid-build and/or design-build bridge projects. Experience with road or pump station rehabilitation projects is a plus.
- Enjoy reviewing work of professionals, including QA/QC of plans, design calculations, estimates, and specifications.
- Broad understanding of bridge and culvert design, including road elements such as geometric design, hydraulics, deck drainage, traffic safety, construction staging, and bridge planning. Capable of managing bridge load rating and safety inspection projects.
- Excellent listening skills, with an ability to understand client needs.
- Expertise in scope, schedule, and project management.
- Understanding of schedule implications driven by survey, geotechnical, and roadway geometric considerations.
- Leadership passion and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive communication and project development skills.
Technical Qualifications
- ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Professional Engineer License.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in MDOT transportation infrastructure engineering.
- Strong project management experience.
Work Environment
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
- Physical dexterity to navigate busy office and construction site environments.
