Houchens Food Group – Construction Management is seeking a self-motivated Project Manager to support the Store Development team. You will lead capital projects from planning through completion, coordinating design, estimating, procurement, and schedules.

Responsibilities include cost control, risk mitigation, and cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Real Estate, Marketing, and IT. Travel up to 50% may be required for various markets.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of commercial construction management experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge of building codes and industry standards.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Houchens Food Group is seeking a self-motivated, quality-focused Project Manager to support our fast-paced Store Development team within the Houchens Industries family.

Position Summary

The Project Manager plans, organizes, and leads all aspects of capital projects within assigned markets. Projects may include new construction, buildouts, expansions, and renovations across a variety of commercial settings—including grocery, convenience store, hardware, restaurant, warehouse, shopping plaza, and office environments.

This role oversees design coordination, scope development, budgeting, procurement, scheduling, and quality control, ensuring all projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Essential Job Functions
Project Execution & Leadership
  • Independently organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects while adapting to shifting daily priorities.
  • Develop construction cost estimates, lead coordination between internal and external teams, including design.
  • Prepare procurement packages, manage bidding, issue addenda, evaluate proposals, and award contracts.
  • Understand and apply contract and insurance requirements throughout the project cycle.
Financial & Schedule Management
  • Manage project financials, forecasting, and schedules, delivering regular updates for One HFG transparency.
  • Predict and mitigate schedule and cost impacts by identifying constructability issues and recommending low-cost, high-value solutions.
  • Evaluate scope changes and determine appropriate cost impacts while maintaining functional intent.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Lead and support Operations, Real Estate, Facilities, Retail Electronics, Marketing, Merchandising, Security, IT, Refrigeration, Warehousing, and Fuel to deliver consistent, high-quality customer experiences.
  • Chair meetings, prepare agendas, document action items, and ensure follow-through.
  • Conduct progress and final quality inspections with Operations and construction teams prior to occupancy.
  • Assist the Director of Design & Construction with ongoing improvement of documents, standards, and procedures.
Travel
  • Travel independently within assigned regions as necessary, including but not limited to: AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MS, MO, OH, PA, TN, VA, and WV (up to 50%).

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of commercial construction management experience.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient understanding of design documents (drawings, specs, submittals, schedules).
  • Solid understanding of construction methods and building codes.
  • Experience evaluating proposal scopes.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and team-motivation abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and listening skills.
  • Strong judgment and professionalism in all project communications.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Proven negotiation, conflict management, and leadership capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • 5+ years of commercial construction management experience.
  • Experience training others and contributing to continuous process improvement.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and scheduling softwares.
