Background

AASLH's Project Management for History Professionals has guided hundreds of participants to understand how project management principles can be applied to history organizations for everything from exhibit design to collections inventories and beyond.

The course is valuable training for staff at all levels. Whether their work involves exhibitions, education and programs, planning, fundraising, collections, historic preservation or the many other tasks staff at history organizations address every day, participants will gain new skills, ideas and tools for effectively managing projects. This is a basics course and is not intended for those whose primary role is as a project manager.

This course consists of four modules that include videos, readings, assignments and other activities. A live weekly session provides the opportunity for students to interact with the instructor and each other, and optional group and one-on-one sessions provide additional support.

AASLH seeks an instructor to facilitate at least two virtual sessions per year. Through a combination of readings, assignments, quizzes, and discussions, the Project Management instructor will administer a self-paced course supported by AASLH's Professional Development department, who will help guide the curriculum development and provide technical support as needed.
