Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a Project Leader 2 and Project Leader 3 to manage international safeguards and nuclear forensics programs. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and have significant relevant experience.

Job description

Position: Project Leader 2 and Project Leader 3

Project Leader 2

Provides project management and coordination support for international safeguards, nuclear forensics, and in vitro bioassay programs.

  • Interacts with technical leads to coordinate, deconflict work, set priorities, schedule, and track execution of deliverables for approximately $45M of technical programs.
  • Ensures scope and budgets are accurately estimated and resources are available.
  • Oversees large, complex equipment purchases, ensures delivery and installation, interfaces with external vendors, manages contracts for warranties and service agreements, and meets LANL requirements for capital purchases.
  • Tracks costs, commitments, and accruals to balance costs and revenue at fiscal year closing.
Project Leader 3
  • Includes all Project Leader 2 responsibilities.
  • Coordinates and oversees programmatic input into capital construction projects to expand capabilities for program growth.
  • Works with technical, infrastructure, and construction organizations to estimate cost and timeline for installation of programmatic equipment and oversee execution upon facility construction completion.
  • Interfaces with line management, customers, and supporting laboratory organizations to work independently.
Minimum Job Requirements
  • Working knowledge of and experience managing moderately large/complex technical projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects within approved scope, schedule, and budget, including development of project plans, work breakdown structures, and documentation of baseline reports and change control actions.
  • Experience interfacing with customers and negotiating deliverables and deadlines.
  • Experience with system development focused on continuous process improvement.
  • Experience managing or coordinating large and complex equipment procurements, including vendor interactions, procurement documentation, delivery coordination, and installation activities.
  • Independent work with initiative and strong organizational skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain a Q clearance (US citizenship required unless exceptional).
Education Requirements

Project Leader 2: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years of directly related experience or equivalent education and experience.

Project Leader 3: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 8 years of directly related experience or equivalent education and experience.
