Job Description

We are seeking a Project Lead with deep expertise in BMS/BAS/PLC/Building & Equipment Smart Control to join one of our partner companies — a fast-growing innovator in AI-powered energy management and smart building solutions based in the United States. Founded by seasoned experts in machine learning, green energy, and building automation, the company is revolutionizing how commercial and industrial facilities manage energy, delivering intelligent, data-driven tools that reduce both costs and carbon emissions.

This is a part-time role initially, with a planned transition to full-time as the company scales. You will play a pivotal role in identifying value leakage, evaluating existing system gaps, and architecting advanced control solutions using the company’s Smart Control platform, which includes Reinforcement Learning (RL)-powered automation.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical and strategic lead on BMS/BAS/PLC/Building & Equipment Smart Control projects from assessment through deployment.
• Conduct on-site evaluations of buildings, warehouses, and hotels to identify inefficiencies, energy waste, and control system limitations.
• Analyze existing systems (e.g., Siemens, Schneider, Honeywell, Johnson Controls) to identify integration or performance gaps, as well as facilities lacking automation or Smart Control systems. Leverage technical and industry expertise to design and recommend the most suitable and cost-efficient hardware and software solutions for controlling client systems such as HVAC, boilers, gas heaters, and industrial equipment—focusing on energy efficiency and automation. Utilize the company’s internal rule-based engine and advanced Reinforcement Learning (RL) capabilities, ensuring that all proposed solutions are fully compatible with the client’s infrastructure, the company’s cloud platform, and local edge devices such as Raspberry Pi 5.
• Design, communicate, and implement improvements for the client using selected cost-efficient third-party hardware middleware and either third-party or the company’s own software systems. When using a third-party software platform, ensure it allows for configuration and integration with the company’s optimization capabilities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, data science, and engineering to tailor site-specific solutions.
• Oversee project timelines, vendor management, and systems integration execution.
• Educate clients and internal teams on the value of smart automation and modern control logic.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in BMS/BAS/PLC/Building & Equipment Smart Control.
• Hands-on experience with major PLC systems (e.g., Siemens, Schneider, Allen-Bradley).
• Ability to quickly assess control logic, uncover inefficiencies, and recommend improvements in real-world facilities.
• Expert knowledge with industrial protocols such as BACnet, Modbus.
• Familiarity with building protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and KNX.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a track record of designing scalable control strategies.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with both technical and business stakeholders.
• Bonus: Experience or understanding of Reinforcement Learning and control theory.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience at companies like Honeywell, Trane, Johnson Controls, or Siemens.
• Held senior roles in project leadership, customer success, or technical delivery.
• Familiarity with AI-driven building automation, or experience deploying RL-based control systems.
• Demonstrated success in customer-facing leadership within BMS or automation environments.
