Job summary

General Motors in Spring Hill, TN seeks a Project Industrial Engineer to drive manufacturing automation projects, lead complex improvements, and optimize plant processes. You will coordinate with in-plant departments and Headquarters to deliver automation solutions and sustain operations.

Role requires 5+ years in manufacturing, strong problem-solving, and proficiency with robot systems and CAD tools. On-site work with some travel and relocation support available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Experience leading large and difficult continuous improvement projects autonomously.
  • Knowledge of robotic systems or general programming.
  • Proficiency in labor optimization tools and time study analysis.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or CAD/layout tools.
  • Ability to work off-shift, weekends, or overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, plan, and execute large-scale manufacturing projects involving robotic cells, cobots, and material automation systems.
  • Develop robust manufacturing systems and modify current systems to install and sustain automation.
  • Evaluate feasibility, capability, and ROI via cycle time analysis and modeling data.
  • Coordinate with Headquarters to develop business cases, SOWs, and SORs for new projects.
  • Track milestones, timelines, and resource needs to align with business objectives.
  • Partner with area leaders and HQ to develop interim and long-term execution plans.
  • Participate in safety buyoff processes for new equipment and automation.
  • Travel to equipment suppliers as needed to support runoff.
  • Support automation installation including Start of Regular Production.
  • Lead revisions to assembly line flow and build sequences to support automation.
  • Lead workstation and equipment layout revisions for automation installation.
  • Support workflow configurations within robotic cells and material pull systems.
  • Assist in tool design, lift assist design, and material presentation design.
  • Plan manual backup processes to meet production targets.
  • Develop long-term automation sustainability plans and standard work.
  • Design work operations to meet safety, ergonomic, quality, takt, and efficiency requirements.
