Job summary

GEI Consultants, Inc. seeks a mid-level geotechnical engineer to join the West Region Geotechnical Engineering Group. You will lead and support projects on dams, levees, hydropower, and related infrastructure, with opportunities across institutional, residential, commercial, and waterfront developments.

This hybrid role includes client engagement, budgeting, and staff mentoring, with travel to field sites. A BS in civil/geotechnical engineering and a PE license are required, plus 3+ years of

Job description

We are seeking a mid-level geotechnical engineer to join our vibrant Geotechnical Engineering Group in the West Region. The chosen candidate will be an active partner in supporting our profitable and growing Dams, Levees, and Hydropower engineering practice. Other project work could include projects such as institutional, residential, and commercial buildings, transit-oriented development, waterfront, contractor support, and transportation.

Job Locations

This position is available in our Sacramento, Oakland, Bakersfield, Pasadena, Carlsbad and Portland offices.

Job Flexibility

GEI is instituting a hybrid workplace environment, which allows workers to choose from a range of options allowing a combination of work from home and in the office. This can range from working in the office a minimum of 2-days a week, or electing to work the full 5-days in the office. This allows for a forward-looking flexible work environment in our office of the future.

  • Project manager and technical lead for geotechnical engineering projects and tasks including evaluation, design and remediation of dams, levees and hydropower facilities; geotechnical instrumentation; geotechnical investigations and design for major water infrastructure including conveyance (pipelines, canals, penstocks, pump stations, and tunnels), bridge, and waterfront facilities.
  • Prepare technical scopes of work for proposals and projects, project budgets, requests for proposals for contractors, and technical reports.
  • Provide effective and leadership role in proposal teams and presentations.
  • Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary, multi-geographic project teams.
  • Maintain high visibility in the marketplace through regular client contact, participation in client-based professional organizations, and attendance and presentations at industry events.
  • Manage projects and staff
  • Assist in recruiting and training additional staff.
  • This position has a field component; travel and some overnight travel is required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of B.S. degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or related field. S. preferred.
  • 3+ years of previous professional experience in geotechnical engineering; Project Management experience, including proposal preparation and budgeting support; thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations; business development skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel on short-term assignments as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Professional Engineering license required.
