A DAY IN THE LIFE
The Project Environmental Engineer/Scientist provides direct support, under the direction of Senior Project Manager, to environmental projects. The Project Environmental Engineer/Scientist will complete tasks as assigned using applicable tools and skills to help develop, implement, and maintain management strategies, procedures, and plans for our clients to ensure compliance with state, federal, and local regulations. The position will be required to conduct fieldwork, perform basic calculations and analysis, prepare permit applications and regulatory guidance documents, manage simple projects, and assist with preparation of other environmental documents, such as periodic reports. This role requires that the individual is familiar with the Microsoft Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office suite of applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), personal data file (PDF) editors (i.e., Adobe or Foxit), and Google Earth.

Work will be remote, however, the ideal candidate should be driving distance to the Montrose Albuquerque, New Mexico office.

As a Project Environmental Engineer/Scientist, you will be part of a strong team of committed professionals. This role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:

  • Title V, NNSR, PSD Air Quality Permitting, Minor Source Permitting, Air Quality Impact Analysis, Emission Inventory Reporting (EIR), Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans, CERCLA / RCRA Compliance.
  • Work effectively, both independently and in a team setting.
  • Work collaboratively with peers, seniors and our clients to build and strengthen relationships.
  • Be present and engaged in team and client meetings, and share ideas.
  • Conduct field work at client sites to collect data.
  • Assist with research and data collection efforts as requested by project managers.
  • Prepare environmental guidance documents, permit applications, compliance plans, and other resources for clients.
  • Track project budget and project hours and utilizes time effectively to complete tasks within assigned timeframe(s).
  • Interface with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met.
  • Be knowledgeable of regulatory standards in environmental technical areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, both within Montrose and for our clients and affiliates.
  • Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including completion of all required safety training programs.
  • Participate in the company’s continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
  • Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Expertise And Skills
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science (civil, environmental, or chemical) from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • 3 or more years of environmental compliance experience with industrial, municipal, and/or federal clientele.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of computer aided software (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.).
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • This position can be physically demanding and will require work in various working environments/conditions which requires that an individual be physically capable of canvassing large project areas by foot on various terrain and potentially in inclement weather.
  • Work environment will vary greatly depending on nature of assigned tasks.
  • The position may involve local travel as needed.
