Job summary

NIFCO America, a leading automotive plastics supplier in Shelbyville, Kentucky, seeks an experienced Project Engineering Supervisor to lead pre-production efforts and cross‑functional teams.

You will oversee engineering resources, implement training plans, and ensure on-time launches while maintaining cost controls and process improvements across APQP deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Technology / Engineering or related field or 10 years’ experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook; Windows, Oracle.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate launch and pre-production activity through multiple departments and staff including direct supervision of Project Engineering team.
  • Identify resource needs and address program delays; verify open issues.
  • Implement Project Engineering training plans and follow APQP system.
  • Review TPR, program management sheets, and APQP deliverables; maintain project critical paths.
  • Develop work instructions meeting internal and customer requirements for pre-production teams.
  • Manage and direct Project Technicians to control inventory and coordinate shipment of Pre-Production parts to customers; conduct periodic inventories.

Job Summary: Supervises/mentors Project Engineering team for pre-production product development.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate launch and pre-production activity through multiple departments and staff including direct supervision of Project Engineering team including engineers, technicians, and new model packaging.
  • Can effectively identify resource needs
  • Identifies Program delays, concerns of team and reacts. Verifies Open Issues
  • Implement Project Engineering training plans
  • Follows APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) system
  • Reviews engineer TPR (Critical path), Program Management Sheets and APQP deliverable checklists
  • Maintains all Project Critical Paths
  • Review, develop, and create work instructions that meet internal and customer requirements that can be followed by the pre-production team and support groups to pre-production.
  • Manage and direct Project Technicians to control inventory and coordinate shipment of Pre-Production parts to customers per their requirements & orders. Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual physical inventory as requested.
  • Approves all Cost Sheets, Outsource Requests, Production Transfer Checklists, and Packaging forms.
  • Assists in developing department Business Plan
  • Facilitates weekly meetings with Project Engineers
  • Effectively designs department Core Tool improvements
  • Maintains a floor layout (Project Area)
  • Utilize all Project Core Tools - ex: Part Reviews, Program Reviews, High Volume Trials, TPR, ECOs, Communication Boards, Safe Launch, Costing forms, Design Change Kick-Off, and Project Capitals
  • Able to read and understand Engineering Drawings/Blueprints
  • Serve as resource/mentor/supervisor for Project Engineers
  • Support internal/external meetings for Project Engineers
  • Actively seeks Kaizen opportunities internal and external to Project Engineering department
  • Maintain compliance to IATF 16949 (International Automotive Task Force)
  • Maintain compliance to all Safety and Environmental expectations
  • All other duties assigned

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Technology / Engineering or related field or 10 years’ experience

Preferred Skills/Experience/Requirements:

  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office: Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc; Windows, and Oracle
  • Proficient in math disciplines such as algebra, calculation of averages, etc.
  • Must be a licensed driver with a safe driving record
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability
  • Must be familiar enough with injection molding/plastics to successfully enhance new project launch and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Must be familiar enough with part assembly to successfully enhance new project launch and contribute to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate program delays
  • Demonstrated ability to impact costing/budget
  • Demonstrated ability to take a program from KO to transfer (on-time)
  • Demonstrated understanding of Project Critical Path
  • Demonstrated understanding of Product Quality
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively maintain costing information
  • Effectively utilizes all Project Core Tools
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing to create memos, correspondence, instruction, standards, often of a technical nature to successfully execute essential functions
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability and effectively participate and contribute to team projects
  • Must possess a high level of concentration and ability to focus on details
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with both floor associates and management regarding matters such as process, technique, equipment, tooling and other matters that pertain to essential functions
  • Must be able to utilize computer software to generate internal and external correspondence, charts and graphs
  • Must be able to travel offsite, occasionally overnight (by auto and/or air) and internationally
  • Behave in a positive manner that enhances the success of the company
