Job summary

USAM DC is seeking a Project Engineering Manager to lead the Project Engineering Department from estimating handoff through submittal, drawing development, and coordination with production.

You will assign Lead Project Engineers, oversee the submittal process, monitor budgets, and drive continuous improvement of workflows, standards, and SOPs.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in construction management or engineering, 5+ years in millwork or related fields, and strong AutoCAD/Microvellum skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field highly preferred.
• 5 years’ experience in architectural millwork or similar industry.
• Knowledge of Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) Standards.
• Familiarity with Microvellum Toolbox.
• Able to read and interpret architectural drawings/blueprints.
• Excellent AutoCAD millwork drafting skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including intermediate Excel skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Experience with millwork production methods and fabrication techniques.
• Experience with CNC manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Assist with scheduling and planning new projects and project revisions.
• Assign Lead Project Engineers to new projects and revisions based on workload, project requirements, and available resources.
• Oversee the overall submittal engineering process and ensure projects remain on schedule.
• Monitor and track submittal engineering budgets for each project.
• Identify potential schedule, staffing, resource, and workload issues before they impact project delivery.
• Provide problem-solving support to the engineering team and assist with escalated project issues.
• Provide continuous training and development for Lead Project Engineers, Project Engineers, and supporting engineering personnel.
• Develop, implement, and maintain department SOPs, standards, and processes.
• Continuously evaluate and improve department workflows, efficiency, and quality.
• Identify and develop new drafting and engineering resources as needed.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, and personnel development.
• Conduct mid-year and annual employee performance reviews.
• Approve Engineering timesheets in ADP and ensure time is accurately recorded and properly cost coded.
• Coordinate with Estimating, Project Management, Production Engineering, and other departments to ensure a smooth transition from Estimating → Project Engineering → Production Engineering.
• Maintain accountability for project quality, schedule, budget, and overall department performance.
• Coordinate and schedule material takeoff for project specific requirements with the Material Specialist.

USAM DC is looking for a motivated Project Engineering Manager to join our team. The Project Engineering Department is responsible for taking projects from the Estimating handoff through the complete submittal process, including drawing development, R&R revisions, client drawing approvals, incorporation of field dimensions, and coordination/procurement of materials. The primary goal of the Project Engineering Department is to ensure that all drawings are fully coordinated, approved, and updated before a project is transitioned to Production Engineering. Drawings should be complete and production-ready, with no outstanding revisions or unresolved submittal items when released to Production Engineering.
