Job summary

USAM DC, a high-end architectural millwork firm in Northern VA, seeks a Drafter/Submittal Engineer to support multiple projects under the Engineering Manager. You will draft, detail, and coordinate submittals, ensure design intent, and collaborate with production and management to meet schedules.

Ideal candidates have at least 3 years drafting experience with AutoCAD and Microvellum, a background in millwork, and knowledge of AWI standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 3+ years drafting with AutoCAD and Microvellum.
• 3+ years’ experience in the architectural millwork industry.
• Knowledge of AWI Standard.

Responsibilities

• Record and track task status as directed by Engineering Manager.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to complete tasks timely.
• Prepare written communications regarding engineering and project material.
• Attend weekly standups with Engineering team to discuss assignments.
• Meet design intent of contracted scope using existing construction documents.
• Produce custom construction details to meet scope.
• Complete submittals timely and according to company standards.
• Understand materials and hardware used to manufacture approved scope.
• Process releases through Microvellum, saw optimization and CAM software; annotate drawings and print & release reports.
• Use AutoCAD & Microvellum to draft and detail assigned work.
• Collaborate with production and project management to develop production drawings.
• Other duties as assigned.

USAM DC, a high-end architectural millwork firm base in Northern VA, is seeking a Drafter/Submittal Engineer. The Drafter/Submittal Engineer will provide support of multiple projects and tasks as directed by the Engineering Manager and team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Record and track the status and completion of tasks provided by the Engineering Manager.
• Communicate and collaborate with engineering and production team members to complete tasks in a timely manner.
• Prepare written communications and correspondences regarding engineering and project material.
• Attend weekly standups with Engineering team to receive and discuss weekly assignments.
• Meet the design intent of our contracted scope of work by utilizing existing construction documents.
• Produce custom construction details when necessary to meet the design intent of our contracted scope of work.
• Complete submittals in a timely manner and according to our company standards
• Maintain an understanding of all the materials and hardware used to manufacture the approved scope of work.
• Process releases through Microvellum, saw optimization and CAM software; annotate as built drawings, and print & release reports and drawings for production.
• Effectively manages time and prioritizes assigned tasks.
• Utilize AutoCAD & Microvellum to draft and detail assigned work.
• Collaborate with production & project management to effectively develop production drawings.
• Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not have any direct supervisor responsibilities. However, the position assists and guides other team members with questions and concerns.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Preferred Education and Skills (in addition to the required)

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Wood Technology, or related field
• 3+ years’ experience drafting/drawing with AutoCAD and Microvellum
• 3+ years’ experience working in the architectural millwork industry
• Knowledge of Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI) Standard

Required Education and Skills

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience drafting with AutoCAD
• Ability to read and understand architectural drawings
• Experience with millwork production methods and fabrication techniques
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including intermediate Excel skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a both an office environment and on or near the shop floor where there may be moving mechanical parts with occasional exposure to the risk of electrical shock, outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally high.

Minimal travel is required for this position.
