Job summary

Abbott Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to support the Project Manager and Superintendent across all project phases. You will manage submittals, RFIs, and change orders while handling research, data entry, and budgeting tasks in Viewpoint.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and proactive coordination with subcontractors and internal teams. Ideal candidates have a 4-year construction degree and 2+ years in project engineering, with healthcare construction experience preferred.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree in a construction-related major.
• 2+ years of project engineering experience.
• Willingness to pass a drug test.
• Healthcare construction experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support PM and Supt to meet goals through all project phases.
• Lead submittal, RFI, and change order processes.
• Provide research, data entry, and back-up support as needed.
• Assist planning, scheduling, and coordinating to meet deadlines.
• Act as main contact for subcontractors and assist PM as needed.

Job description

Project Engineer

The Project Engineer (PE) shall support the Project Manager (PM), and Superintendent (Supt) as required for them to meet their goals through all phases of a project.

Primary Duties

• Responsible for managing the submittal process
• Responsible for managing the RFI process
• Responsible for managing the change order proposal process
• Provide research, backup support, legwork, data entry etc. as requested by the PM and Supt
• Complete budget revisions and modifications in Viewpoint as required throughout the job
• Assist to maintain a high level of safety in alignment with Abbott's core values
• Ability to combine knowledge of engineering methods, construction methods and human management skills
• Provide support for planning, scheduling and coordinating projects to meet deadlines
• Offer support to the estimating department by soliciting subcontractors for projects as well as managing and distributing plans
• Be the main point of contact for subcontractors as requested by the Project Manager
• If needed, act as a Project Manager when a Project Manager is unavailable

Required Skills

Required Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a drug test
• 4-year degree in a construction related major
• Motivated for a long-term career in construction
• 2+ years of project engineering experience
• Preferred experience in Healthcare construction and fast-paced construction managing multiple projects concurrently
• A focus on following processes and procedures, taking ownership of the role, and not being afraid of difficult conversations and relaying bad news when required

The full salary range for this position is $78,000 to $105,000. This position is eligible for a target bonus

Sick leave accrues at one (1) hour for every 30 hours worked. Accrual for sick leave is capped at 240 hours. At the end of each calendar year, you will be allowed to carry over accrued and unused sick leave up to 240 hours. You will not begin accruing sick leave until you drop below the accrual cap.
