Job summary

Buchart Horn is seeking a skilled Project Engineer – Transportation to support the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects. In this mid- to senior-level role, you’ll take ownership of technical design efforts, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across disciplines to help bring high-impact transportation projects to life.

Based in Memphis, you will plan, schedule, and coordinate phases, perform calculations, lead QA/QC, and interact with clients and internal teams to meet budgets

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited B.S. in Civil Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong knowledge of transportation design principles & regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work on transportation projects.
• Perform and review engineering calculations addressing design complexities.
• Supervise and mentor project team members (designers, technicians, EITs).
• Support project managers in developing proposals, work plans, budgets, and timelines.
• Participate in client meetings and coordinate with internal/external teams.
• Conduct site visits and fieldwork to support project development and design validation.
• Develop design plans, profiles, and diagrams using AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Process shop drawings, respond to RFIs, edit specifications, prepare cost estimates.
• Perform and oversee QA/QC procedures throughout project phases.
• Maintain knowledge of transportation design standards, materials, regulations, technologies.
• Assist in resolving construction-related engineering challenges.
• Lead or contribute to technical studies and project reports.

In this mid- to senior-level role, you’ll take ownership of technical design efforts, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across disciplines to help bring high-impact transportation projects to life.

What You’ll Do:

• Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work on moderate to major transportation projects
• Perform and review engineering calculations, addressing design complexities such as conflicting requirements and material limitations
• Supervise and mentor project team members, including designers, technicians, EITs, and junior engineers
• Support project managers in developing proposals, work plans, budgets, and timelines
• Participate in client meetings and coordinate with internal and external project teams
• Conduct site visits and fieldwork to support project development and design validation
• Develop design plans, profiles, and diagrams using AutoCAD and MicroStation
• Process shop drawings, respond to RFIs, edit specifications, and prepare cost estimates
• Perform and oversee QA/QC procedures throughout project phases
• Maintain technical knowledge of transportation design standards, materials, regulations, and technologies
• Assist in resolving construction-related engineering challenges
• Contribute to internal training recommendations based on industry trends and technical advancements
• Lead or contribute to special technical studies and project reports
• Ensure compliance with both corporate and client procedures on design and implementation
• Conduct project review sessions to monitor progress and identify any required corrective actions

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong understanding of transportation design principles, techniques, and regulatory standards
• Proven ability to mentor staff and manage technical performance across project teams
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining quality standards
