Orion Engineers is looking for a dynamic Project Engineer with a focus on infrastructure and the transportation industry to join our growing firm.
As a Project Engineer at Orion, you will have the opportunity to work with industry leaders on a wide variety of transportation engineering projects. You will hone your technical skills while gaining exposure to project accounting, client service, marketing, and business development. Responsibilities:
- Assist in plan preparation, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, report writing, specifications, cost estimates, roadway lighting, and related tasks.
- Work closely with other teams on multidisciplinary projects.
- Analyze data to perform routine design tasks.
- Follow instructions from Project Managers or Senior Engineers regarding expected results.
- Research design options and document findings.
- Ensure accuracy of engineering designs and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness, and adherence to budgets and schedules.
- Research code requirements and prepare environmental impact reports for permits.
- Keep Project Manager informed of workload and project changes.
- Maintain professional knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and participation in societies.
- Assist in project proposals and business development.
- Participate in non-design activities such as construction inspection, materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis on highway and transportation engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) Licensure for Illinois required.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Minimum 3+ years of responsible experience as a Transportation Engineer or similar role.
- Familiarity with ISTHA/IDOT policies, roadway design, plan preparation, and construction engineering.
- Experience with MicroStation design software.
- Experience with Geopak SS4/3D modeling, cross sections, and SUDA is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license required for travel to project sites and fieldwork.
Pay, Perks, & Benefits:
- Competitive salary from $85,000 to $110,000 based on experience.
