Job description

What We're Looking For:

Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking to fill the position of Roadway Design Engineer (PE) in our Nashville, TN office. Responsibilities for this position include:

  1. Designs a variety of roadway project types including urban streets, rural highways, bridge replacements, sidewalks and trails, complex interchanges, roundabouts and intersection improvements.
  2. Collaborates with project team members, client representatives, review agencies to resolve a variety of complex problems.
  3. Supervises the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project.
  4. Prepares and reviews technical reports, drawings, plans, specifications, and permits for projects.
  5. Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  6. Prepares cost estimates for assigned projects.
  7. Conducts project site visits, as needed.
  8. Demonstrates strong attention to detail.
  9. Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills; works independently on multiple tasks without immediate supervision.
  10. Builds and maintains excellent interpersonal relationships.
  11. Demonstrates working knowledge of Tennessee Department of Transportation systems, policies, and procedures.
  12. Understands standard operations, policies, and procedures of a firm, preferably within the A/E industry.
  13. Performs other duties as requested.
Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 6 years of roadway design experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee or ability to obtain PE in Tennessee within 6 months of start date is required.
  • Experience using MicroStation V8i and Geopak is required.
  • Working knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and techniques, including AASHTO guidelines.
  • Skill using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Tennessee Department of Transportation project experience is desired.
